Description

We're working to make the place we call home, better – and our stories make a difference. Whether that’s through watchdog journalism, in-depth analysis or just asking questions that need to be asked (not to mention sports coverage of the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals and more).

For our work, we’ve won awards, including a Pulitzer Prize for local news. But none of that matters as much as this fundamental idea: We’re here to seek the truth, to understand the world around us, and to understand one another.

We’re Cincinnati’s trusted storytellers. We’re here for it.

WHAT WE’RE ALL ABOUT:

• Journalism that makes our home better by celebrating the good, solving the bad, and investigating the ugly.

• Sports coverage for locals, by locals: insights and observations about the Reds and Bengals along with a subscriber only newsletter: Charlie's Chalkboard.
• High school sports coverage with an eye on rising athletes that culminates with our annual Cincinnati H.S. Sports Awards.
• Stay informed about the 2024 Presidential Election and local races in Cincinnati, including the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
• App features like real-time alerts, challenging puzzles and lively podcasts, a personalized feed, the eNewspaper, and more.

Great journalism but the app itself needs some tweaks.

The reporting that the enquirer does is top notch. All you need to do is read their incredible piece 7 Days of Heroin and you’ll know the quality and dedication they’re capable of. I just have a minor criticism about the notification system for the app. I set up notifications so I can stay up to date on the news of my city, but I don’t care about certain topics. Namely sports. I just wish there was an option to opt out of getting notifications about specific topics. That way I wouldn’t have my phone buzzing at me to tell me about things I have absolutely no interest in.

News, Interrupted

This app could be great, but I wouldn’t know because it’s really hard to actually use it without first having a newsletter prompt pop-up that I have to decline. This is followed by an offer to subscribe for $.99 for 3 which would be a great offer, except that I AM ALREADY A SUBSCRIBER!!!!! In fact, this is DAY TWO of my one year subscription and the fact that I have to decline this offer is simply asinine. I’m only paying $1.06/month and I feel like I overpaid for this lousy experience. Once you get an actual news article, there is a steady stream of ads and surveys o the extent that there seems to be a 1:1 ratio of paragraph to ads/surveys.

I would pay $4 or $5/month for a better experience, but I am seriously so disgusted I’m considering canceling my $1/month subscription. I can’t even believe it, but I simply can’t get to the news on this app without the deluge of interruptions. I have to wonder if anyone from Gannett has actually used this app and compared it to other news apps???

The app itself is awful

If you’re in the middle of an article and go check the weather or answer your phone, or even just put your phone down long enough for it to sleep, the app closes completely and you have to reopen it, find the article you were reading, and then find your place in the article. Every. Single. Time. It’s super annoying and I don’t have ANY other apps that do that. It’s not like it would take new technology to fix that incredibly annoying “feature.” Even this very app didn’t start doing it until relatively recently. So they must have deliberately *chosen to make this happen. I’m seriously considering dropping my subscription until they fix it.
