BlueLink Smart Connect 4+

Update: The developer response fixed the program issue! Thank you! Our installer had turned off the program in the menu so that’s why it wasn’t working. If you’re having trouble with your program, this was a quick fix and tech support was helpful! We still have issues with the app timing out and not saving changes but it might be our router or internet service. I’ll troubleshoot this with tech support next time I have time to call. But at least I was able to enter a program and it’s following it now. I shouldn’t need to make so many manual changes now anyway. I have a much better experience with this app after following the developers advice.

This app is frustrating and I’ve seen a lot better apps for controlling a thermostat. Half the time I use it, it fails and doesn’t change the setting. I spent hours with the tedious task of adding a schedule and it never followed it. So I only use this app for the most basic feature - manually changing from heat to AC and adjusting the temp up and down. I submit the request to change the setting and it spins for 15-30 seconds then fails. Even when our internet signal is strong and it should be connected.

We are pleased you were able to change this installer option at the thermostat. Some users are satisfied with a set and forget temperature. (Program OFF). Others want to allow the thermostat to follow the built in Energy Star Program. Please contact support and ask to speak to the BlueLink Development Team. To provide insight, your mobile device does not communicate directly to the thermostat. Here is simplified version of the actual path:

The app opens in landscape and the UI design felt like it’s coming from a Flash game in late 2000s. The thermostat that this apps works with is not fancy or smart either, comparing to Nest or Ecobee. But so far, the app works very well. I do have concern that the app would seemingly save the login password locally rather than maintaining a login session whenever I reopen the app, but as long as I don’t lose my phone it probably won’t be an issue.

Thank you for your comments. The app can maintain a login session by going to the Account Area and selecting the "Last Session" option for minimize behavior. For users that select the Minimize to the Main Menu, the password is encrypted.
Are you taking advantage of the SmartData and Energy Usage Reports? These reports can be sent to you automatically by selecting the SmartData Reports button on the Select Thermostat screen.

Got this last week when my 6 year old Nest seemed to malfunction & my HVAC guy put this in. Thermostat seems to work well but the app is not user friendly. You have to log in, then navigate to another page & then a 3rd until you get to the actual function page. Had to wait several times and it seems uncertain it can change at times. Heat to cool or up or down. A delay & then when you log in again it’s made the change even though it didn’t do it when you first asked. You could design a much better, user friendly app with face recognition log in & a much better set of icons/settings that are easier to use.

Thank you for your comments. To enable fingerprint or face login, log into the app and go to the account section. At the bottom you will see a switch for biometric [on/off]. Change the switch to [on] to enable automatic login. We have almost completed the work on a similar switch that will take you back to the same spot in the app where you left off in the previous session.  
When there is a delay or uncertain change, the thermostat may have a weak Wi-Fi connection. Go to the alerts section and touch the gear icon in the lower left. Scroll down to RSSI signal level. If the value is anywhere -20-50 you are in great shape. If the number is greater than -50 you may want to consider router changes or a repeater.
