Description

*** Apollo operates on Portrait Mode photos (requires iPhone 7 Plus, 8 Plus, X or NEWER). ***

Apollo is the FIRST application that enables you to add light sources to your **Portrait Mode** photos, after the photo was taken! Apollo reconstructs a 3D map of your photo which you can augment with new light sources in real time. Take your portrait mode photographs from awesome to unforgettable by selecting the color, intensity, distance of a light and illuminate your photos and selfies to your heart's content.

***
WARNING: Taking portrait mode photos requires iPhone 7 Plus, 8 Plus, X or NEWER.
***

Apollo is the first app to use the depth data of your portrait mode photos to calculate photorealistic light and shadow. Using a proprietary processing algorithm running on your iPhone's graphics card, Apollo is able to render light sources on a portrait scene or selfie in real time.

Apollo allows professional photographers and amateurs alike to try things that are not possible in the physical world. You can shape scene lighting by adding or even removing light. Since lights are computationally rendered in the scene, it is possible to put a light source within the frame: say hello to invisible lamps!

The UI is optimised for use with one thumb, allowing you to always view the entire photo. One price, no in-app purchases and no subscriptions.

We hope that Apollo is part of the computational photography revolution. We are doing our best but your support is crucial. Send us your feedback, ideas or bug reports on our support email.

Show off your lighting chops on our social media outlets.

RobCona ,

Works Really Well

For the reviewers who aren't able to edit their existing portrait photos, I had the same issue. I found that any portrait photos I capture after I've downloaded the app work. It doesn't seem to recognize older portrait photos but works really well for new ones. I actually like how the Help Tips are defaulted to on until I get used to the functions. After a few times through it was easy to turn Help off. For the developer, it might be helpful if you can explain how to turn Help off right in the app. Like the info you have when the question mark it tapped.

Developer Response ,

Dear RobCona,
we are working on the usability issues you are facing and an update is on its way.
Thank you for your valuable feedback. Regarding "portrait mode photos not opening issue" please contact us at contact@indice-corp.com to give us more info and squeeze that bug.

Won’t access any photos

Thought this app would be kinda cool concept is good but it won’t access any photos so it’s absolutely useless complete waste of money

I was asked to edit my review of this app so here it is this is a great concept but it can’t access any of my portrait mode photos that it has already filtered it wasn’t that it wouldn’t access my regular photos that I left a bad review I knew it would do that before hand I checked the app out first and read as much about it as I could so I already knew it would filter and only use portrait mode photos but every time I chose one to edit it says it can’t access I checked the setting to make sure it wasn’t on my end as well and I did give permission to the app to access my photos and it still can’t access my portrait mode photos that it displays when you open the app I can only access the sample photos provided with the app so once again until this problem is resolved this app is useless to me and was a waste of money and the issues are not do to user error

Developer Response ,

Dear Cod is my name,
Can you please update your review to reflect to the latest version of the app? We have made lots of improvements since then!
Thank you very much!

TWSHC ,

Terrible.

Can’t access all of my photos, just 40 or so, instead of the 7,000+. Of the 40 available, not one is able to be opened by the app. The refund is on its way.

Update 3:
Received another tone deaf email from the developers begging me to change my review.

So I downloaded the app once more and opened it up, granting permission to access my photos. Still can’t open any of my Portrait Mode pics.

Thanks but no thanks, devs. I’ll take my money back now, thanks.

Update 2:
I’ve received another response from the developer. It seems to be rather tone deaf. They just keep reiterating that the app only works with photos taken in Portrait Mode. Here’s my reply to the developers...

I know what Portrait Photos are. I know how to differentiate between them and other photos. I know where they’re stored in the Photos App. I know how your app works.
Now read, very carefully -
Your app DOES NOT open any Portrait Mode photo on my iPhone 7 Plus, nor will it open a photo taken in Portrait Mode on my wife’s iPhone 7 Plus.

Until the app is updated, you shouldn’t ask me to update this review.

Update:
Received a canned response from the developer, but it completely misses the mark. Yes, I understand the app is only going to use photos taken in Portrait Mode.
But there’s just the one glaring problem, dear developers:

Your app won’t open any Portrait Mode photo!

Refund please. Pronto.

Developer Response ,

Hi again TWSHC,
Apollo opens portrait photos in thousands of iphones. Let's debug your issue.

1. Please try to snap a sample portrait mode photo with the Camera app, and immediately open it with Apollo. The Camera app should show the yellow indicator on the bottom, showing that a portrait mode photo is being taken. Please verify that this opens in Apollo.

2.Even though iOS reports a photo as portrait, the depth data could have been lost due to the following reasons:

-Your photo was not taken with the default iPhone camera app, but with a third party application like Lightroom. In our experience, third party programs do not store depth information or use incompatible file formats.
-Your photo was taken with an iOS version prior to 11, therefore it does not contain needed depth data.
-Your photo was taken on iOS11 and above but was manipulated using a 3rd party program that stripped the depth data.
-Photo was transferred with something other than AirDrop which caused depth data to be lost when the file was optimized for network transfer
-iCloud storage may choose to "optimize" the size of your portrait mode photographs when you are running low on space. Unfortunately, it will strip the depth data, without stripping the "portrait" property of the photo. In order to prevent this from happening in the future, go to Settings → iCloud Photo Library → Select Download and keep originals.

If you are certain that a photo does not fall in the above categories, you can verify that portrait is enabled by opening it in the Photos app. Select Edit, and look for a yellow Portrait indicator.

We really think that the above is an exaustive list of cases that depth data can be lost. The latest version will tell you what program has last touched the photo. Hope we can get to the bottom of this. Kindly update and get back to us--thank you for your feedback.
