Ratings and Reviews
Finally
I was so excited Altitude came out with a streaming app. I love FuboTV as well, but with all the streaming services I already pay for, it was a lot of money every month just for avs and nuggets games. The Apple TV app is really buggy which is the only reason for the 5 star review as I watch 95% of the content from my TV. Occasionally the app crashes, maybe once every sporting event. More often than that, the channel refreshes every 10 minutes roughly and I have to return it to full screen so there isn’t a border. Finally, the most annoying and ever present issue is the screen overlay. Altitude Sports and the time bar can be seen at all times at about a 10% opacity instead of disappearing completely after 5-10 seconds of inactivity. As someone trying to watch the games, it’s really distracting having something over the screen faintly at all times. Bugs found shortly after release are common and I’m sure they’ll get squashed. I’ll update the review to a 5 star when that happens. As of right now, I’m happy to have the option to pay $20 instead of $100 each month to watch my teams.
Mixed blessing
Wow. This app was not ready for prime time. I feel like a beta tester. So many issues.
- asks me to enable notifications every time I open it. I can’t find a way to shut that off.
- content locks up and freezes. Restating the app is a regular thing.
- can’t use the app and another app without A+ crashing. You can’t even access menus within the app if you’re watching something without the feed pausing.
- zero video control. I’m afraid to do anything once video is playing so I don’t break the feed.
- full screen doesn’t always show full screen. There are often offset images and a cropped frame.
- picture quality is pretty compressed
- casting to the TV is hit or miss. Lots of interruptions. It’s almost like the app crashes if the phone goes in to sleep mode.
Ultimately, yea!, I can watch the Nuggets without a subscription to another service. That’s worth one star. I guess watching the Avalanche is worth another star. They should not be charging $20/mo for us to iron out the kinks. Looking forward to improvements because there are many needed.
Needs Work-Poor Picture Quality
This app is ok, but not $20/month ok. It’s truly a disappointment that they couldn’t have this app ready and better tested for launch. It took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to go full screen in the AppleTV app, I had to restart my AppleTV and return to the app. The full screen button is to the right of the two subtitles and settings icons, but it’s “hidden”. The cursor will select a blank spot, click it and it goes full screen. However, full screen resets to the border view every hour due to the timing blocks of the schedule. In addition, the picture for me is terrible. The image is clear, but the color is washed out. I tried on two different televisions and I get the same result. The picture on the ESPN and Max apps is much better. I’m finally happy I can watch Avs games not having to worry about blackouts. NHL’s ratings are low this year as it is and they can’t seem to figure out that blacking out games is detrimental to growing the fan base and the popularity of the game.
