Description

Zerocam: the pure digital camera app.

The app which brings pure point-to-shoot photography back!
Your phone is a small pocket camera, and we believe this camera is made for fun.

Let's be honest: It's not a professional camera with a huge lens, large sensor, complicated settings, and hardware controls. It's a small pocket camera with a tiny sensor and a plastic lens. It's not perfect, but it has a charm! Natural noise, a soft, pleasant look, and subtle in-camera app color grading are distinctive Zerocam looks.

The stock camera app is trying to compensate for "imperfections" with very aggressive AI postprocessing, and the result usually looks unnatural, with an unmistakable HDR look and flatness. Out task to get rid of it.

Zero interface.
Focus on photography, not the camera!
Today, almost all photo apps for mobile devices are packed with features, settings, and complicated controls. In our experience, it's becoming less and less accessible because sometimes we want to take a photo, but we have to set up too much: change the exposure, tap to focus, swipe to the correct mode, change the camera… and we miss the shot! Bummer!
Zerocam is the most accessible camera app ever! Giant shutter button and all settings already made by us.
There is no focusing, exposure correction, or hassle. Just click, and we do the rest. It's the same as using a real disposable camera—pure fun!

We think photography is about telling a story, and nothing should distract you — not artificial postprocessing, ruining your photo with added details that aren't there, or a bloated interface.

FAQ:

Does Zerocam shoot RAW?
— Nope. However, we use RAW in the pipeline for accurate color grading. And saves JPG for you.

Can I shoot in RAW with Zerocam?
— Nope. Your mobile camera is excellent, and RAW is more about a professional approach.

Where are all the settings and options?
— Zero. Remember the app name? Yep!

How to focus?
— Focus is always on the middle of the frame, as in pocket cameras!

Where is the selfie camera?
— Flip your device and get a way better selfie! Yep! The primary camera is better.

Why does it have no options and functions?
— This is why this camera app exists. Accessible and simple. Everyone can understand and use it!

What is the difference between RAW shooting and Zerocam results?
— RAW is a professional format file; it's only data, not a final photo. Also, the file size is quite large. You have to edit it and it properly, and it makes the photography process longer and more complicated. We appreciate this approach, but sometimes, we want to take photos and be sure they look fantastic.

What exactly is Zerocam doing when I press the button?
— Zerocam works precisely like a conventional digital camera: It takes temporary RAW with our best setting depending on the light and scene, converts it to a flat image, applies our custom subtitle LUT, and saves it in compressed format.

Great, but…

The one issue I have is the viewfinder is 3:2, but the photos are output in 4:3. It would be great if the photos could be output in 3:2 to match the viewfinder. Right now, it either undermines your composition, or requires you to manually crop after (both of which undermine the point of the app).

Would also be great to have an option in the settings to disable the iPhone’s auto macro mode. This often kicks in too soon and I end up fighting with it, which takes away from the intended experience.

Lastly, perhaps a simple button to toggle between fixed white balance? I know the app isn’t supposed to be a manual camera, but in my own photography I find sticking to 5600K and 3200K helps preserve the mood. The iPhone’s auto white balance neutralises things too much.

With these QoL changes, this app would easily be 5 star. Love the look of the photos and it really does make you focus on framing and composition.

Great idea but some changes needed

Great app, I don’t want to have to mess with too many settings when taking a photo. However, I’d like to see the following changes:

1. Lose the logo/splash screen after first launch - I want to get into the app as quickly as possible.
2. Flip the shutter button when I rotate to landscape so I can be sure photos will be taken in landscape mode.
3. A Button to switch between front/back cameras, and the different lenses. I don’t want to long-press the app icon as it’s too slow and fiddly.

Thanks!

Developer Response ,

We've just introduced the switch lenses functionality inside the app. Check the 2.0.6 version! Please consider improving the rating if you like it ;-)

Great app

Images straight out are sharp, very low noise, and colours are handled well. Just needs a tap to focus. Auto prioritises background when you have a close foreground object, which makes sense, but sometimes you want the opposite. Perhaps not even a tap to focus, maybe a slider to adjust ‘preference’ of near - default - far areas. That way you can keep the hassle-free theme.
