Editors’ Notes

Fantastic, but please improve offline mode

I love this app; it’s the best way to use Wikipedia on an iPhone by a long way. I appreciate that links to Wiki automatically open in the app and that content is always formatted nicely for the device.

The offline support for saved articles is also a fantastic feature for those of us who travel frequently and can’t access the internet all the time. However it seems to be slightly buggy: when reading an article with no internet access it renders correctly but there is a stream of banners flicking out from the top of the screen: “Syncing will resume when an internet connection is available”, “There’s no internet connection”, etc. It’s really distracting to have these popping in and out every few seconds, and it feels like the developers of this app haven’t actually tried to use the offline functionality. If this could be fixed, this app would be near-perfect. 👌

Great app obviously but please can you include a forward button?

Obviously the Wikipedia app is great. It’s good to be able to download the pages and the formatting looks a bit nicer and you don’t struggle with the page widths and font sizes being wrong sometimes . My biggest issue with going from using the web to using the app has been that when I go down a long Wikipedia hole sometimes I like to go back and forward between the top page and a sub link and the lack of a forward button makes that difficult. That or I just can’t find the forward button. While I’m here also the screen turns off quite a lot when I’m reading Wikipedia articles if I’m on the page for too long without touching the screen. When I’m on the browser, I think iOS knows that I’m reading something but it doesn’t do it on the app and screen turns off and then I have to unlock it.
