Difficult to use

I found this app very difficult to use. Perhaps it’s because the wall I am trying to plan is only small and I can’t stand more that 2m away from it, but I can’t even get the app to accurately recognise the wall.
Rather than being able to click on all of the corners of the wall you have to make a net which you pinch and pull to the correct size. Only when you get your net to fit on one edge of the wall it doesn’t fit the other, when you pinch the net it now doesn’t fit on the edge of the wall it originally did.
Like I said, I have found it very difficult to use and I’d recommend saving your money.

Thank you for taking the time to report your issue with our app. Feedback is important to us and we use it to improve our app. Fewer than one in a hundred provide any feedback, so your feedback is appreciated.

You’ll be pleased to learn that based on your suggestion, we’ve added the ability to resize the wall width by dragging either its left or right edge. As mostly used, the wall is invisible and not colored so that the augmenting framed pictures appear hung on the real wall. As long as the wall is wide enough to hold the gallery, the width is not important. The green mesh only appears while dragging pictures or manipulating the invisible wall. The squares in the mesh are 2” x 2” to ease aligning frames. The width of the wall is important when the wall is colored so that it masks existing objects. In that case, changing the width by dragging on an edge is very helpful. Thank you for pointing this out.

In addition, we’ve improved the app’s built-in help pages to explain how you can easily fix an issue where filling the screen with a view of an empty wall that has no features causes augmented reality to lose tracking. This is a common problem encountered by those who are new to augmented reality. As currently implemented, augmented reality requires that what’s in the camera’s video stream contains recognizable fixed structures that provide anchors for linking the camera’s video to the device’s augmenting 3D images. A video stream filled with a smooth white wall lacks the necessary contrasting texture.

To fix the issue, simply add a mark or two to the wall that will be visible to the camera. For our walls, we make an X with painter’s blue masking tape. Alternatively, you might stick a couple of contrasting color Post-its in the camera’s view. The marks can be hidden by the virtual frames and walls so the marks don’t show on the screen even though they are still visible in the camera’s video stream. A similar problem and solution exists when the app searches for the floor. The app needs to find the floor first so that it knows how high the pictures are hung.

Based on the issue you report with using the app from a distance of 2 meters, you may have been encountering the “featureless wall” issue. If that’s not the case, please email us with more details at support@wallgallerydesigner.com. We would like to learn more about the issue you have encountered so we can improve it in a way to help you. You may be interested to learn that the test wall we use during development is only 6 feet away :)
