Fix Inter-app Midi!!

Ok, i've had this app for ages and I think it's fantastic! Whenever I want to do some serious effects to my voice, this is the app I turn to. But the only reason for the 4 star is because since the last update, inter-app Midi no longer works and that is the best way to use this app in my opinion. I can no longer use it and get the same results without that. Please can you fix this problem and then the app will be second to none! Thanks

If you mean Inter-App-Audio, we upgraded to Audio Units V3 which include ALL functionality of IAA while offering much more, see our manual voicesynth.com/manual.html#audiounits, also accessible within the app via the INFO panel. Voice Synth offers midi functionality both directly between apps and hardware (so-called CoreMidi) as well as midi via Audio Units. Good but needs a bit of work

I’ve had my eye on this app for years now and finally bought it, found myself struggling with a couple things, especially getting it to integrate with GarageBand.

My biggest issue with the app is scale editing. It locks to a C Major “aesthetic” even if if I edit the root note. It essentially tunes the C Key to a new note, so the scale sonically changes, but it’s physically in the place of C. It throws me off and makes even the simplest transposition a nightmare. Please update so that I can make the key of, say A Major, start on the A key so it looks like an A Major Scale, instead of locking it to the C Key etc. Also I would love to see better integration with GarageBand. Like automatic chord recording for after effects.

I’d really love to be able to record a clean vanilla take and then lay the vocoder effect on top after I’m done. I would love to see an “auto chord” forming tool so that I only need to hit one key to make a full Triad/Chord because hitting digital keys on a tiny screen isn’t very easy or precise. Of course it would need to have chord editing to make sure it doesn’t give a Major when it needs to be minor, as some of the auto pitch scales aren’t the easiest to work with in that regard and I’ve found myself struggling to find the right scale for what I’m trying to do. And as it seems there’s only 5 scales Major/minor/Penta etc, so I’d love to see more added to match the ones in GarageBand.

Thanks for your compliment! Good news, Voice Synth already contains everything you ask for.

Use audio units (instead of inter-app-audio) to have your clean recording on Garageband’s track while Voice Synth’s audio unit transforms it on-the-fly during play. You can then keep editing and tweaking all settings after making the recording.

The reason the “C” takes such a central place in Voice Synth, is not for aesthetics at all, but to enable the integration of pitch information in a comprehensible way from so many sources: your voice, the autopitch tracker, pitch shifting, autochords (yes it is built-in), and the ability to change scale on the fly.

To set chords, use the REGISTER panel. If you set e.g. Cmaj7/G on that panel, Voice Synth will use the centrality of the C to interprete it rootless: “a tritone with a 7 and a 5th as bass”. In that way, it can shift that chord harmonically through all modes of any scale you set, based on tracking your voice in real-time. If the scale is set to C major, the main keyboard has a C down, and you sing an E note, Voice Synth will produce an Emin7/B chord. If you change scale during e.g. a section in a song, from C to F, hit the -7 button on the scale panel (or arrange the change in within an appropriate DAW), Voice Synth will then instantly produce an Em7b5/Bb chord. If you then hit D on the main keyboard (was C), Voice Synth will respond by shifting the chord 1 note up to Fmaj7/C.

About scales, on the SCALE panel we offer some often-used scales as presets, but you can completely freely design any scale you like, e.g. the (probably never used) melodic minor with a b9. Same as with chords, the “C” is just used as central note.

This way, Voice Synth harmonizes everything automatically based on your voice in real-time. Very useful if you are not a trained keyboard player. Good keyboard players can still clear (reset) the registers and turn off autopitch, to have Voice Synth produce 1:1 the pitches played on the keyboard, effectively doing away with the central C mechanism.

Best £6.99 spent on an app yet !

Well.... this app has just blown me away. I bought a Mogees previously but I needn’t have bothered. The sounds I’ve been getting with the voice synth in my shed tapping and scraping objects mixed with voice is just incredible ! With So many parameters and tweaks to play with, the possibilities are endless. The only limitation is your imagination. Would have been nice if it was Audiobus compatible but hey... I can get round that for my needs so I’m still giving it 5 stars !!!
