Voice Recorder & Memos Pro 4+

A must have: complication immediately records.

I have strongly recommended this app to others on Reddit. Recorder is one of the only recording apps that immediately starts recording on a tap of the complication. This is such an absolutely fantastic feature that I cannot fathom why other developers have not attempted to provide it. Not only that, I have counted nine potential types of complication, providing incredible customisation, and is notable feat for a small developer - particularly since most large companies struggle to make any, even when they have a watch app. The only complications Recorder does not apparently seem to support, are several found in the Infograph watch face.

When it comes to the fact that no other developer has included such a seemingly obvious feature, to record on press, only one reason that springs to mind: they simply cannot work out how to do it, and do it well. So bravo to the skilled dev of Recorder, it is really something special, and is therefore a must have app.

One problem, however, prevents it from being 5 star, but I am hoping the devs can fix it easily: in the iPhone Watch app, it is not possible to set Recorder as a complication when editing faces. You can set it on the watch itself, but then the phone displays that position as 'Off'. As I said, hopefully the dev can correct this issue, so that I can update my review to 5 stars.

It (used to) simply just work, really well

I'm a musician, and I use this app up to 5-6 times a week to record brief sketches and ideas, and it's always performed perfectly. It's among the top 5 of my most-used apps. The interface makes it easy to transfer the audio files to any location I'm likely to need. I paid to remove the ads, and that was worth it too (although they're unobtrusive). Dear developer, thank you, and please keep maintaining it, and change very little about the interface - you got this just right.

Update: although I already paid, the new version seems to want me to upgrade again?

Update May 2021: seems like each update makes this less usable! I can no longer move recordings into a folder within the app, the tiny pale grey font is unreadable, and the 'cartoon' animal is just fluff. Keep the free version simple - I just need a plain app to record, then move and trim elsewhere!

Works nicely

I find this a useful app for my studies as a musician just for taking practice notes and references, handy at gigs, it picks up the sound well enough for me to find what I’m looking for.
I have only been using the free version so cannot comment on everything it has to offer though saw an add suggesting a recent update that the app now has measure editing you can earn one for watching adds... I’m not big on apps doing this as by the time I’ve redeemed my edit slot I’ve probably lost my focus... each to their own. Thus far have had no issues, I am mildly on edge one day I may come back to an empty folder.... I don’t know tech, I use this app to its basic form.
No complaints.
