Description
Vivid allows users to double the brightness of their MacBook Pro and Pro Display XDR, system-wide!
The new MacBook Pros and the Pro Display XDR have displays that can go up to 1.600 nits of brightness. By default these levels of brightness can only be reached when watching HDR videos or by using Metal applications. Until now.
Vivid uses standard Apple APIs to allow users to make their screen more than two times brighter.
Supported devices:
- MacBook Pro with M1, M2, or M3 chip
Vivid can double the brightness of the Pro Display XDR when used on any non-Intel chip MacBook as well (including iMac and Macbook Air).
Please note: Vivid does not work with the Macbook Air display and does not work with Apple Studio display.

You'd be fooled for thinking that somebody just turned on the sun as your screen backlight!
Glitchy and compromised
In reviews the app is shown to increase the brightness range by adding an extra set of steps above the MacBook's own scale. The current version doesn't do this: instead it makes each existing step brighter thus reducing the granularity – i.e. bigger jumps between each step. Often brightness steps will not work smoothly at all, initially getting brighter or darker then shifting back. In use the screen gets hot which is worrying. As experienced on a Macbook Pro M3 Pro / Sonoma 14.5

Hi, thanks for the review. Some videos on the internet show Vivid 1 which did have its own scale. Vivid 2 is much better, but to get through Apple rules we had to make it work a bit differently. Use SHIFT+OPTION+BRIGHTNESS to get much more accurate brightness steps!
And don't worry about the hot screen - Vivid is now over 2 years old and it's used everyday by us and our customers who have never reported any problems. Thanks.
