Has potential but too many frustrations

The concept of this app used in conjunction with the Garmin XT2 is a good one. Plan the route on your phone or tablet and wirelessly transfer it to the XT2 ready for use. However, many people want to do their planning on a PC or Mac using a big monitor. This cannot be done using Tread which is a mobile device only app. If you want to use your computer for planning you have to use a third party app.

Using Tread, one problem is that that routes don’t transfer properly. When you transfer a route, shaping points are moved from where you placed them in the app, causing the XT2 to make a different route choice than the one planned in the app.

The app is also very frustrating to use because it does not display place names other than the very major towns and cities and even then only when zoomed right out. As soon as you zoom in for any level of detail the place names disappear.

The synching process with the XT2 also often results in the XT2 locking up and crashing.

Concept good, execution lacking. Please fix the issues listed above and create a desktop (or web based) version of the app so that users can plan routes using a computer as well as a tablet or phone. Then it would be great. As it is, three stars only I’m afraid.

XT2 use

My XT2 planned and synced route is different when it appears in the Tread app. When then saved, Tread overwrites the route I wanted. Very frustrating.

No offline map option- when abroad and on a roaming data tariff, I can’t afford to download large volumes of data while planning a route in the Tread app. It took 1 GB of data last night for 3 days of route planning. The way point sequence changes constantly means data is used upon recalculating.

I like the logic and possibilities this app / device combination gives, but please look at the above. It’s very costly and time consuming at the moment. Not all adventures are route planned when connected to free WIFI.

Awful

Multiple, significant, issues.
Routes that are created in the app and then transferred to a Zumo XT2 are (if short) usually okay. Anything with any shaping or via points or any moderate length to them, once synced to the device, then get altered by the Tread app, which is then reflected on the device.

Maps are not offline (why?!)

Any routes that are imported, either from BaseCamp or MyRouteApp, through the app will become corrupted and will route in totally the wrong way, even with waypoints and shaping points.

The only way (seemingly) to get a route on the device without Tread mucking it up is to directly add it to the device or SD card, and ensure that Tread does NOT sync. If Tread syncs, your efforts are wasted. The files need deleting, and starting again.

Absolutely unbelievable.

Totally unacceptable for a company providing navigation solutions.

Reported to Garmin - nothing happening as yet.

Issue is far reaching (quick Google will show that).

Garmin - sort this out. I can see why customers are leaving in droves for your competition.
