Description
Back in the “old days”, producers and engineers created delay and echo effects using tape machines. Tap Delay combines the warm sound of vintage tape echo machines with a modern, step sequencer-like tapped delay engine which continues the tradition of the tape echo machines into the 21st century.
The Tape simulation includes all relevant aspects for the recreation of a faithful analog tape sound:
• Compression and Saturation
• Tape hiss
• Tape head bias
• Wow and Flutter (Tape speed instability)
• Smooth speed / delay time changes
Three feedback filters with hipass/lowpass and bandpass characteristic simplify the creation of authentic dub echo effects.
The built-in Limiter allows for endless feedback sounds.
Use live input from any source - Microphone, Guitar, Audiobus and Inter App Audio - or take a song from your iTunes library for processing.
Features:
• Multi-tap delay machine
• 24 taps for rhythmic delay effects
• Tape simulation ( Saturation, Noise, Flutter )
• Alias free tape saturation through oversampling.
• MIDI controllable including Tempo sync
• Delay loop equalizer for dub effect.
• Glitch free simulation of variable tape speeds.
• Spatial echo rotation effect.
• Audiobus 3 compatible with state saving
• IAA compatible ( Auria, Cubasis, Garageband ).
• AudioUnit AUv3 with parameter automation.
• Ableton Link.
• Integrated iTunes player.

Ratings and Reviews
Audio Unit size truncated in iPad Pro M1 12.9”
Out of goodwill, happy to give this 4 stars, but the fascia of this is abruptly cut off top and bottom, as an AUv3 inside GarageBand iPadOS, and no presets exist in standalone or AudioUnit. Plus, taking the time to fill in the Developer’s website support note request, it’s not nice when it just ghosts you with a ‘404’ . I mean, it’s 3 digits, but feels like just one…anyway, hardly life or death, but there’s none of the 14 presets, and it’s not enticing as it stands, on a 12.9” device, the UI is not really up to par. Take care all.
Very useful delay
Interface looks like it was designed in Lemur, which isn’t a criticism, though it’s a little hard to read, but good enough.
The delay though is perfect in terms of quality, features and flexibility. Capable of anything from basic stereo tap delays to crazy irregular delays. Graphical EQ great. Ableton link seems to only work in the full app and IAA but not with audio units, which is a shame. 5 stars if the AU can sync (and if colour scheme rejigged slightly).
The AUV3 version kept crashing.
It wouldn’t load into AUM as an AUV3 and initially I thought I had tried to open the IAA. I tried that next and it sounded distorted, but not in a good way. Eventually the AUV3 version did load, but I wonder why it wouldn’t to begin with and is this a bug? I’m using it on a 2017 iPad Pro and also have a 2021 Pro, but I haven’t tried it on that yet.
