Description

Protect yourself when the UV is at damaging levels with the SunSmart Global UV app.

Powered by world leading health, radiation and weather organisations, the app provides worldwide UV levels and clear guidance as to when sun protection is and is not required.

Travelling and spending time outdoors is one of life’s great joys. Knowing when sun protection is recommended wherever you are in the world gives you confidence to enjoy the sun safely, minimizing the risk of skin damage which can lead to cancer.

The SunSmart Global UV app takes the guesswork out of being safe in the sun with daily sun protection times sent to your phone along with simple advice for protecting your skin.

***What are sun protection times?***
Sun protection times are linked to the UV Index and are advised when the UV is forecast to be 3 and above. This is consistent with the WHO UV Index guidance and has been determined as the level at which damage to the skin is likely to occur more quickly.

The app will advise you that sun protection is required during specific times when the UV is forecast to be 3 and above so that you can adequately protect your skin.

***How is it different to other UV apps?***
The UV app has the backing of world-leading health and meteorological organisations making it a trusted and reliable source of advice.

Unlike other apps, the SunSmart Global UV app is designed to simply inform users when sun protection is required and when it is not.

***What are the key features?***
- Daily UV levels for the local area including sun protection times
- 5-day forecast including UV and weather forecast
- Access to the forecast UV and sun protection times anywhere in the world

Beautiful and Simple, but Needs Refinement

I've been using this UV app for a while, and I have to say, it’s quite visually appealing. The user interface is lovely and modern, making it very easy on the eyes. Additionally, the simplicity of the app makes it incredibly user-friendly. It’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into making the app intuitive and accessible.

However, there is one issue that I believe needs addressing. The app features multiple buttons, each of which leads to the exact same information. This redundancy can be a bit confusing and unnecessary. I think the app would greatly benefit from either having just one button that consolidates this information or providing more in-depth, specific details for each button’s heading.

Overall, it's a great app with a lot of potential, but a little refinement in the navigation would make it even better!

good forecasts & a clear index

the app is fairly simple, with an easy & clear to use interface. the forecast stretches for 4 days in my location. it might forecast a full week in other locations, I guess? but the app lacks a widget - please add an iOS widget.

Need a widget

No complaints about the app but a widget would be nice.

The Met website data often differs and can show higher UV for up to an hour on each side of the UV3+ window in this app. It's unclear which one to trust.

If you are concerned, add +1 to the index shown, so use protection until it drops to 0-1 instead of 0-2.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your feedback. The SunSmart Global UV app uses the live UV range (roughly 100km radius from a fixed UV monitoring site) and draws forecast data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). The difference between the measured (actual) and calculated (forecast) is due most likely to the impact of weather conditions, including cloud cover, which can impact UV levels. Both of those figures are showing levels of UV which can cause harm so if any source is advising that UV is 3 or above, take that as a sign for sun protection.
