Description

Master your Studies. On macOS, iPadOS and iOS.

Some things in life just have to be memorized. Words, facts, formulas, pictures, dates, procedures, even names and faces. Everything you do includes information that needs to reside in your head. Studies can help with that.

Studies is a flashcard app for the serious student. It's a tool to extend your knowledge, and it doesn't matter what you want to learn — a new language, medicine, law, history, driving, fine art, music — from simple day-to-day tidbits, to knowledge of life changing importance. Studies is an app to help you achieve your learning goals.

There are Studies apps for iPhone, iPad, and Mac (separate purchase), and they sync up beautifully via iCloud. Start studying in class with Studies for Mac, continue on the bus ride home with Studies for iPhone, and finish off on the sofa with Studies for iPad.

(Note: Studies was formerly called Mental Case.)

Good so far

I've been using this app for a couple of days and everything is good so far. The iCloud sync seems to work perfectly, which is a relief. I think the interface looks nice and modern, both on macOS and iOS. The concept of continuing a study session across devices is something I like a lot. Hope you guys keep improving the app going forward.

Looks Good But Useless

Downloaded to make some questions. Tried to Import some from a friend. Found that Studies doesn't appear in the activities bar of iPad or iPhone, so I do not have the option to 'Open With'. I assume this is a IOS update problem with the App. Shame ☹️

I was trying to import a .studies file from WhatsApp on my phone and iPad. I can definitely confirm it doesn't appear in the activities bar. I've had to purchase the full price app on Mac and even then couldn't import via DropBox. I had to install WhatsApp for Mac to pull the .studies file in undownloaded format to get it to work. Not exactly seamless. I still have to sync with my other devices and Studies does not appear in the activities bar with ios11. I've even deleted all PDF readers and zip file readers to see if they are at fault.

Customer service (email help! Desk) is arrogant in thinking it is user error, so you lose another star!!!

Developer Response ,

Studies certainly does appear when you choose "Open With...", but only for the file types that it can import. The files it imports are CSV/TSV text files, .studies files from other users, and .studyarch files (http://studiesapp.com/studyarch). You should be able to import a .studies file from another Studies user. If that is not working, please contact support@mentalfaculty.com to investigate what might be going wrong.

[Response to "Added 17 Oct"] What an extremely disappointing and childish response to someone just trying to offer you support.

If there is anyone out there facing a similar situation, here is an answer for you: It seems What's App converts the .studies file extension into a .zip file extension. This makes it difficult to distinguish Studies files from zip files made for other purposes. We will add support in the next minor release to workaround this by treating .zip files as .studies files. Of course, if you try to import a general zip file made for a different app into Studies app, it will not work. In the meantime, you can import .studies files you put directly in Dropbox. If necessary, you can also change the .zip file extension back to .studies, and that should work too.

Don’t bother

Got both the app and (pay-for) desktop app thinking it looked like a slick commercial alternative to Anki.

Don’t bother. Desktop app has UI bugs galore. UX is confusing and some weird study selection options when you start to study.

iOS app and desktop app feel almost like two different apps. In study mode on IOS it’s non-intuitive.

The facets I was most excited about as I’m trying to memorise multiple dimensions and attributions are bad. You can switch which facet to Show but you can’t mix it up.

Thing feels rushed. Maybe it might improve but for time being no QA no actual Design.

Stick with Anki and ankiweb which is free.

Developer Response ,

Would love to hear more about how you would like the app to be improved. One star certainly seems unfair, even if you do think things can be improved, but perhaps it is better to discuss it via our support system: support@mentalfaculty.com
