Ratings and Reviews
Excellent all rounder!
The game is a lot of fun! It's easy to pick up, simple enough to play, has a decent campaign, and an absolutely killer Arena/PvP mode. Only reason it's not a 5* app is because the AI can be a bit stacked and there's a little too much luck of the draw with the deck at times.
However, I really do like the race balances, that you have to adapt your starts on the go, and that the expansions are all reasonably priced and actually change the experience of the game. Which generally makes all of them worth while for one reason or another.
I haven't played the physical card game, but I am very glad that the digital version exists and is basically a solid purchase. Hope the White Wizards keep up the good work and the game continues to expand. Catch you later Space Cowboys~
Great game, curious choices by app makers
This is a really great game to play with friends - enough chance at play that no single strategy every guarantees victory, and a good range of play styles are required to suit the vagueries of each game.
Also, no internet connection is required for play against the AI which is great.
The only catch is that the structure of the pricing for packs you will want to buy too closely resemble the physical card costs, which doesn't make sense. Aside from the lack of physical production costs making the price exorbitant, there is no bundling discounts etc that you expect from modern digital games.
Do play the game, and buy some physical decks, but it's a shame to be restricted to such a small subset of what makes the game great.
Painfully one sided campaign
I own a physical copy of star realms but bought this to be able to play against an opponent on the go. The campaign of this app seemed to be my solution. Unfortunately it is massively one sided. stacking the deck heavily in the apps favour. Giving it multiple high power cards in its hand from turn 1. While the player just gets the base starter cards. The resulting gameplay is 99% luck and 1% skill as most of the time there is literally no way you can possibly win against so heavily stacked opponents. The game quickly devolves into repeating the same mission over and over again until every once in a while luck deigns to grant you the right combination of cards you need to win. Note to the devs. Your customers don't like feeling like they have no influence over the outcome. I might as well have downloaded a clicker.
