Getting started

You’ll need some data to download the app for the first time, but data charges no longer apply when using the SA app itself. If you have a connection, you can do your banking!

Transactional features are available to Standard Bank accounts held in South Africa, Ghana, Uganda, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Lesotho, Malawi, eSwatini and Namibia. Keep in mind that some types of payments include transaction fees.
Note that some features may not be available in your region.

Updates unreliable - zero help for issues

Great “when” it works but cannot rely on it.

One of many issues:
After an app upgrade it says that there is no active transaction account.

Having used Standard Bank remote banking for 20 years, you can never be confident that you can login. Literally every time I login I’m concerned that there will be another issue.

Getting help is VERY difficult.
Expect regular trips to the branch to resolve their problems.
Otherwise it works really well.
Except when it doesn’t work at all.

Complete and utter waste of time

This app is an embarrassment to banking - there are teenagers in fintech that can do a better job.
On being prompted to register phone numbers for OTP, it (usually) fails to find UK as an option and then when it does, ends in a technical error with no explanation of way forward.
On looking to load a beneficiary, I am told I need a ‘transactional account’ - is it suggesting I don’t have one...and what does that suggest?
I can then however continue process to load beneficiary but again am left with a technical error.
Developers, I see you posting responses asking how you can help. Can you fix the above mentioned bugs or do we need to be more specific for it to seep into your brains?

Works so well

I love the new functionality in the overseas payments section. Being able to calculate the converted currency and see the local fees before committing to the payment is SO helpful. I also like being able to see my international payments history.
The only thing I would like changed is that the log out button should be more readily available - I expect to see such a vital action on the main screen, not buried in a sub-menu.
