What’s New

Version 13.1

NEW: Control the playback of songs via a large play button in the middle of the screen. Enable the large play button in the app settings (under 'Play-Mode').
NEW: Easily automate page flips and auto-adjust the scrolling speed of imported PDF documents with the timeline's new 'Scroll / Position PDF' markers. (see 'UPDATE NOTES' below to learn more).
NEW: Single Songs in the PDF format can now be exported and shared in the Song One file format.
NEW: The selected 'Page Flip Transition' option of the app settings ('Play Mode') now applies to PDFs as well as native Song One documents.
NEW: Annotation note markers can now be added to the timeline by tapping on the annotations icon in the MIDI event window (top right corner).

UPDATE NOTES:
- The previously used PDF 'Scroll Speed' markers are now deprecated (i.e. superseded by the new 'Scroll / Position PDF' markers).

- Existing PDF 'Scroll Speed' markers on the timeline will continue to function.

- The timeline's event window no longer offers a pop-up menu to add the old PDF 'Scroll Speed' markers to the timeline: Click/Tab on the location icon to add the new 'Scroll / Position PDF' markers to the timeline.

- Placing a new 'Scroll / Position PDF' marker on the timeline will automatically de-activate all existing PDF 'Scroll Speed' markers of the song. (You have the option switch between the old PDF 'Scroll Speed' markers and the new 'Scroll / Position PDF' markers by performing a long tap on the plus icon of the timeline and making the appropriate selection in the submenus.)

OnSong Rival - check it out

Song One might be the new kid on the block, but it is already very mature and advanced app. I was so impressed by first impressions, I immediately purchased "Song One Pro", and have imported 400 songs (from OnSong).

Here are some of it's great features, and reasons why you might be better off with Song One:
- One purchase for Mac, iPad and iPhone versions
- Looks fantastic
- Easy transposition using the 'wheel', plus it can remember the original key, as well as a key for transposition & capo etc. very handy!
- Dual column (if you use the print view in song flip mode)
- One-off fee, rather than subscription
- Auto-scrolling of songs, if you add a duration (though I prefer 'page-flip' mode).
- If you're less experienced and need chord diagrams, it has them for guitars, any tuning, plus keyboard diagrams
- I love how memos are attached, and magically appear when a song is scrolling

Basically, it feels very well designed. The developers are helpful and quick to respond to feedback, and they've already implimented some suggestions I've given in updates.

One or two things work slightly different to what I expected, coming from OnSong, but the help tools integrated into the app are fantastic, and there are plenty of video demos if needed.

Simply Brilliant

Superb app which does everything the gigging musician needs and more.
Works seamlessly with Apple Music for instant reference to backing tracks or original tracks for tweaking one’s performance.
Flexible editor for writing or customising imported songs from other sources.
Comprehensive copyright and song information section along with tempo, scroll speed and key controls.
I use it with a Bluetooth pedal which again works brilliantly.
I’m a guitarist but I’m sure piano players will find the virtual keyboard as useful as the virtual fretboard for customising chords for different voicing or complexity.
All apps of this size can be daunting and take a bit of time to find how to use on difference devices. This works great on iPad, phone or Mac and is cleverly designed to get the best from each device.
Above all, I’ve never known Support like it. Personal, knowledgeable and very receptive to feedback and suggestions to improve and develop.
Simply a brilliant App that is now my go to gigging assistant with over 100 songs already listed.
Thank you.

Finding My Way

I've had both OnSong 2022 and SongOne on my devices for some time now. I admit that I've used OnSong much more often as the majority of my musical friends do. But what really bugs me is the compartmentalisation. If I work on my iMac OnSong updates there but not on my iPad and vice versa. Very frustrating!
I have no such problems with SongOne: it updates almost immediately across all my devices - iMac, iPad and iPhone.
My big problem with SongOne is downloading new songs from the internet. I just can't fathom it.
At the moment I'm using both apps in conjunction but that's clunky and expensive!

Developer Response ,

To add text-based content select and copy it to your device's clipboard. Then select 'Import Clipboard' from Song One's import menu (to auto-format the chord symbols, apply your theme settings and auto-generate chord diagrams).
