It’s a shame I can’t rate it a 0 star 😃

Changing the attendance-taking system is already an ordeal. However, the first semester this system rendered itself completely redundant. Students were not actively penalised for missing lessons due to this system.

Additionally, this system poses extreme challenges for those with seen and unseen additional support needs and/or technological poverty. Those with anxiety, those who struggle with extreme sensory overload, or those with physical barriers, are left at a loss when it comes to this inaccessible system. Not only does it cultivate an inaccessible environment (many students crowding around multiple, poorly placed barcodes, scanning with their phones), it also poses physical risks for students.

The lack of a secondary attendance-taking method also raises accessibility and inclusivity concerns. Students reserve the right to be a voice in the education they are paying for. Where was the student voice in this change?

Glasgow Caledonian University must do better to uphold their slogan, especially when it impacts the most vulnerable. Was this new system truly for the common good?

This app has set a new standard for how bad software can be. As a self-proclaimed terrible software engineer, I can confidently say that even I could create something better—and that’s saying a lot. The user experience feels like a punishment, with constant bugs and features that never seem to load properly. Using this app is frustrating to the point of being nauseating. I urge academic institutions to stay far away from this disaster. Whatever you do, avoid this app at all costs; it’s an embarrassment to software everywhere.
