Ratings and Reviews
Great app!
With a simple-to-use UI, it does everything that the website does just as well, if not better. You get personalised recommendations, and can see everything you would want to, including updates and new fictions, on the same page. The one problem I can immediately see is there seems to be no option to get smaller text - when reading I prefer to be able to see more on the screen, and the large writing is a bit off putting. Overall, a very good app though!
Potential but the ads are terrible.
The apps design and frameworkpretty good.
It has a better ui than the website for the follow/read later/liked and the search function with the tags is better.
The access the reading history is also rather useful when keeping up to date with multiple stories at once.
Also the ability to download chapters with premium so you can read them without wifi is a godsend.
However the ads make it inferior to the website. You either choose banner ads that flicker the whole time with bright colours (also a few fake imitation ads imitating other content). Annoying but bearable. (This stays at the top of your screen).
However, now to make it worse they play unmutable audio (unless you want to listen to nothing while reading). The entire time you are in the app.
The alternative is a usually 30 second ad between chapters which given the length of chapters in a lot of stories makes it feel like more ads than watching cable.
Then when you compare it to the website where the ads are only at the top of the page, and the majority of the time user based ads about stories that you may be interested in instead of random gambling/scam ads. The choice is clear.
No question
This is no doubt in my mind that finding RoyalRoad is one of the better things to have happened to me. I’ve been reading on the website for almost 10 years now and my never had an issue.
The app is only an improvement for me. It makes it much easier to track favourites, read laters, and following - changing my reading experience for the better.
I’m able to comment and edit much more reliably too. My reputation levels have spiked considerably.
The one thing I would like is for the forums to be more accessible. It’s an aspect of the website / app I’ve still never used because I’m still clueless. The app is a great opportunity to reformulate and push the social aspect.
