Description

The Q-Wheel is a language tool that introduces users to the Arabic alphabet. Anyone, even those unfamiliar with the Arabic alphabet, can write their name by matching English letters and sounds to their Arabic phonetic counterparts. It then allows users to customize and share their names in Arabic online as digital stickers.

The app includes sounds to hear the spoken letters, so beginners can hear and sound out the Arabic alphabet.

Novice users are guided step-by-step.  Advanced users can opt to go directly to the animated wheel where they can spin and select the Arabic characters to match their English names.

The first version of the app was developed through a partnership with Qatar Foundation International and Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI), based on a physical version of the wheel created and designed by Moneera Al-Badi.

Qatar Foundation International (QFI) is an educational organization committed to advancing Arabic language teaching and learning. QFI supports innovative, research-based Arabic language programs in state funded primary and secondary schools and works to increase access to Arabic instruction for educators and students around the world.

Shows promise

Nice idea but needs work. The guide has some useful information but it would be nice to have this better incorporated into the main interface, e.g. A place to write your name, then have the app tell you which vowels to trim etc. It is also a shame that the final result doesn't speak what you have written, or allow you to copy the text.
