PredictWind weather forecasts update too late, arriving at a port, marina or essentially an anchorage during daylight is better and very much safer, so early departure is often required, if you’re in the Mediterranean, weather updates are at 09:10 when most sailors would much prefer a forecast update at 06:00 as that’s the time the majority of us wish to up-anchor and leave, an earlier forecast would make a significant and important difference to passage planning, time wasted and safety.

Unbeatable - but with one major flaw

I have used almost every weather app for marine forecasts and I swear by Predictwind. Despite the price (ouch) the ability to compare forecast models side by side or in tabular form gives a degree of confidence that models align, or don’t.

There is one major flaw however. Each time Predict wind loads it requires an internet connection to re-download the forecast. This is unhelpful when internet is patchy (or expensive) - as it often is for your offshore target audience.

As a work around, I video screenshot the forecast animations so I can return to it/them during the day (or offshore passage) but this is clunky and there should be a solution for forecasts to be stored on a local device whilst they remain valid (ie until the next model run for example) or until internet is next available in the event of a multi day passage.

Without this I cannot give 5 stars the app has the potential to deliver.

I completely understand your concerns, and updating this caching method is on our list of improvements. Currently, we're prioritizing other major projects coming soon to PredictWind, as we have a workaround in place for this issue. The PredictWind Offshore App allows you to download weather information such as GRIB files, Weather Routes, Departure Plans, GMDSS forecasts, and Satellite Imagery for offline use. This is particularly useful when you have a satellite connection or intermittent cellular connections. Once downloaded, the information can be viewed without an internet connection. Great Product and Great Support Team

I ordered some SIM cards from the web site for my iridium GO.
