Description

PhotoPicker is a convenient and powerful iOS app designed to help you cull and organize thousands of photos from your photo library, Lightroom catalogs, custom collections, or even directly from folders without any prior import.

It’s perfect for both casual users looking to organize their photo albums and professional photographers who need to start sorting images right after a shoot—perhaps even while on the way home.

Key Features:

1. Sorting in the iOS Photo Library
• Swipe up to mark good photos and swipe down to mark unsuccessful ones.
• Add good photos to “Favorites” and move unwanted ones to the “Trash.”
• Setting color labels or a rating (1 to 5 stars) instantly adds photos to corresponding albums in your photo gallery.

2. Integration with Lightroom Catalogs
• Easily import Lightroom catalogs into the app in various ways.
• After sorting, export your changes back to the catalog, which can be opened directly in Lightroom Classic on your computer.

3. Custom Catalogs
• Import photos (JPEG/RAW) into custom catalogs. RAW files are not copied but referenced via links.
• Flexible export options let you move XMP files directly to the folder containing your originals or delete rejected photos directly from a memory card.

4. Sorting Photos in Folders
• Sort photos directly on memory cards, external storage devices, or any folder on your device without importing them into the app.
• Sorting results (flags, color labels, ratings) are saved as XMP files, ready for use in any photo editor.

5. Group Operations and Filters
• Filter photos by various criteria (flags, ratings, color labels) and apply batch operations, such as updating ratings or changing color labels, to multiple images at once.

6. Quick Navigation and Detail Assessment
• Navigate between photos by tapping the screen edges: tap on the right side to move to the next photo and on the left to return to the previous one. This feature works even in zoom mode, making it easy to check sharpness and other details for selecting the best shots.

Excellent software and support

I use this software for culling images before importing to Lightroom on the iPad. This allows me to quickly go through my images beforehand, sorting and picking the ones I want (Using colours and ratings, to incrementally thin the images out), and deleting the rest, ready for the next shoot.

To make it easier to handle, I generally import from my cards into a named Album on the iPad, using Apple’s Photos (Usually one per job and/or day), then create a catalogue in this software with the same name. On the iPad this makes it easier subsequently delete the Album, once images are imported/uploaded to the cloud (Lightroom in my case).

The function I like the most was added when the developer was asked. This is the ability to switch between images at a 100% magnification, for checking focus (i.e. you can check the focus on eyes/or something else whilst quickly flicking through the set). This function was missing, and I contacted the developer and it was fixed within a day or so. Which is truly superb, and for which I am thankful!

Once all this is done, I export the picks to another named album and I then use Lightroom to import/upload to the cloud.
