What’s New

Version 2024.11

New Features:
* New Preference for RAW+JPEG Editing. You can choose if the default is to edit the RAW or the JPEG.
* New Preferences for Crop: You can set a preference to remember the last crop and apply it (just the aspect ratio or freeform). You can also set a preference to rotate the crop automatically as well.

Usability:
* Simplify the Crop interface - if you are not in the crop tool, then the adjustment is smaller with just tools and a straighten slider.
* On iOS, the Presets and LUTs use a menu button instead of a row of icon buttons
* Tool Overlays now have a close box so you can close them if they are in the way.
* Add a new sort option of "Date Added" which matches the sort order that Photos uses.
* Rename Spot / Wire Removal to Spot / Line Removal to better describe what it can do.
* Add preference to make tabbed windows the default

Miscellaneous:
* Fix crashes
* Mac: when editing a single file, the app will detect if it does not have sufficient privileges to write an XMP file. If so, it will alert and prompt with instructions.
* Mac: fix bug where Export would not work if you cancelled at a specific point in the process.
* Fix metadata issues with Leica cameras.
* Fix a bug with Settings where the Photo Library Color Profile setting was not displayed properly.
* Fix bugs with single file editing.

A must have app for photo editors

I’ve been using Raw Power, on both Mac and iPad for a number of years now. It’s always been my go-to photo editor when I first import from my camera. Now Nitro has come along, it’s evolved well, and brings a better interface, and many more features. I have tried the macOS version, and it’s great, but my primary device is my iPad Pro. Nitro works brilliantly on that, even though it’s a pre-M series. It works with either external Files, or with the Photos Library. I use Photos for my storage, as I can access my photos easily across iCloud, as well as share with family, and Nitro enhances that in so many ways - such as bringing back star ratings, and a kind of smart album setup on iOS. Nitro integrates extremely well with the Photos Library, and enables cross device editing (something missing from many other photo apps, and rarely done as well as Nik manages). Support is also superb, and Nik will endeavour to resolve any issues if possible. This is a must-have photo editor, especially if you use Photos and want a bit more editing power, and should be high on your shopping list of photo editing software. Thanks Nik.

Best tool I’ve found for working alongside Apple Photos

The look and feel of Nitro is a big step forward from Raw Power. For me, it offers some real benefits over alternatives on the iPad. Editing tools are extensive and flexible. I often prefer the results to those obtained from other apps. The options for rating and filtering large photo libraries are also impressive. This extends to images accessed via the Files app. The developer is very responsive to suggestions for improvements. You should also check the roadmap on the Gentleman Coders website to see the future for this exciting app.

Shocked Me….

I use an iPAD mini 6 and edit around 20,000 images a year as I travel full time. My Apps are Lightroom Mobile for its AI masks and RAW rendering in good light (I use Olympus EM13 and DJI drones) In poor light Capture One Mobile is the best… UNTIL now. I tried low light macros edits of stacks and found the micro contrast and detail in NITRO was better. I was shocked. The addition of AI subject masking that can be easily brushed in or out is a real plus. Great interface. Would LOVE those Capture One Thumbwheels though…..
