myCityHunt - Scavenger Hunts 4+

We did the Christmas treasure hunt in Worthing. Although we managed to have fun, there were some significant failings in the process.

Firstly, some of us constantly got errors and couldn’t access the content in the app. I gave up trying to use my iPhone 16 half way though as I couldn’t get it to do anything. Given you pay per person so that everyone can access the app, this didn’t feel good and I found it hard to follow the puzzles with other people having to read them to me as they were partly visual. The issues may have been due to phone reception, but if they were then the people who designed the game should really have checked that the route they were sending us is on had reception.

Secondly the puzzles had nothing to do with the locations we were sent to. I’ve done this sort of thing before where you have to find clues in the environment, but in this one your location is irrelevant apart from the fact the app won’t give you the next clue until you walk to the next location. So an odd experience where the walking felt entirely pointless.

Thirdly the puzzles themselves were a bit weak. There were several where you could come up with more than one answer that seemed equally valid. There wasn’t a lot of logic to it.

Despite all this we still had fun as it was a good group of people. But if I do something similar again I’ll probably pick a different company.
