You’ve tried the rest, now try the best!

I was determined not to go down the subscription route, it seemed counter intuitive to spend money on order to manage it … so I tried a number of free money apps to keep track of my multiple bank accounts, credit cards and investments. Having wasted lots of time and raised my blood pressure through the roof with app-rage, I got rid of them all and trialled MoneyWiz. I immediately saw why this app is a paid app, it just works. Simple to load up the accounts and repeat transactions, budgets are clean and logical. I love the personalisation options. Changing logos on accounts, the inclusion of emojis for budget summaries, the list goes on. I initially trialled the full app and linked it with my banks and credit cards, which preloaded some historical data, but I wasn’t keen on the Saltedge system and deactivated that function and bought the unconnected version. I had a small issue with an error message having disconnected from my banks, but I contacted the dev team who got back to me within 20 minutes with the solution. A simple setting I had missed and not an app fault. I keep playing with the app, the settings and the functions and keep discovering things that make me smile. The dev team really have thought this through and have an excellent product that I am more than happy to pay for.

A few issues but excellent support

I have used older versions of moneywiz for many years and have just finished my first year with the latest version. I have had a few small issues partially due to my poor misunderstanding and partly due to the lack of enough easy to understand information as with lots of products these days. However a product is only as good as it’s support and money wiz support, in my opinion is outstanding, offering quick helpful responses whatever day it is. I have had a lot of help from Paul who always perseveres till he gets things sorted. I do think that I probably don’t need everything that the 2023 version offers as I really just want to keep my current account and savings in one place, record direct debits, transfers, and any incoming payments etc. Speaking to others I think lots of people feel the same. Maybe a slimmed down version would be popular. Finally a big thank you to Paul for all his help and patience.

God help you if you have mulple accounts

This app cannot handle transfers between accounts, it's just awful. The "identity transfer" function only works about 30% of the time, correcting miscategorised transfers then created duplicate transactions in the other accounts, then deleting the duplicates deletes BOTH sides of the transfers, so now you have no transactions... Oh and the account balances are calculated off of the transaction rather than just matching the account balances in the downloads, so none of your account balances will be correct unless you correctly reconcile all this 🙃

Edit: downgraded further to 1 star. This app is unusable garbage. It can't handle refunds properly, when recategorising transactions it's far too easy to accidentally edit amounts or dates, and the transactions randomly jump around as you try to edit them. I think some data got lost too but I'm not sure if they disappeared or just moved somewhere I can't see. I'm a chartered accountant and i spent hours trying to get my simple personal spending into the app and I'm at the point where there's so many errors and duplicate transactions, I'd need to delete everything and start the whole process again with my new-found knowledge of this app's weird quirks. Instead I'm going to delete it and build my own solution in Excel where I don't have to contend with the developpers' poorly-conceived and badly-implemented automations
