Description

Mileage Tracker is a new tool from The Miles Consultancy, the UK’s market leading mileage capture specialist to help employees record their business journeys in a quick and easy way, and to review their previously entered journey information.
As a user, Mileage Tracker is integrated with your corporate mileage capture application from TMC and allows you to keep your records up to date painlessly and seamlessly.

MILEAGE TRACKER – tracking and recording mileages
This neat mobile app allows you to track your journey for yourself. You press start at the beginning of your business trip and the application uses GPS to track your exact journey. Whenever you have reached your destination you can stop the tracker and the app will ask you for the purpose of your trip, the app will already know how many miles you have travelled, as well as your start and ending postcodes. On typing the purpose you can submit the details and these update your personal mileage account.
And, if you don’t want to use the tracker, you can use the postcode to postcode mileage entry facility, merely type the number of miles, from and to postcodes and the reason for your trip, and once again this will be uploaded to your personal mileage account.
Creating and maintaining your daily trip log couldn’t be simpler, and allows you to reduce your regular administration tasks and remain compliant with policy.

MILEAGE TRACKER – recording VAT fuel receipts
If there is a corporate requirement for you to upload your fuel receipts the app makes this as simple as possible. Enter the key details from the receipt, such as date, amount and number of litres purchased, and then take a photo, or upload from your photo library. The full details, including the image of the receipt will be uploaded to your personal mileage account.

MILEAGE TRACKER – notifications
Should there be any problems with your mileage entries then the app will let you know, enabling to log into your personal account whenever next convenient.

MILEAGE CAPTURE AND FUEL MANAGEMENT – Corporate System
The Mileage Tracker app is integrated with the Mileage Capture corporate system from TMC.
This solution is the market leading application and service to enable organisations to gather accurate, compliant and timely business and private mileage information to carry out validation and audit.
The solution is also integrated with the UK’s fuel card providers as well as TMC’s own fuel card to allow mileages and fuel to be aligned to help drive substantial savings for a corporate fleet.

Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Worst App I’m forced to Use ,

Clunky, buggy, out dated

The mobile app UX is extremely poor. It feels like collection of & maximisation of movement data has been given higher or equal priority to user experience.

I’ve used the app for over 2.5 years and there’s no obvious attempt at modernisation or improvement in any way to benefit the poor end users that are burdened with its use.

Postcodes known to be true are often rejected. The auto track functionality is so glitchy, the additional admin burden to verify accuracy makes the features use avoidable at all cost.

Manual calculation of distance by postcode makes consultation with google maps or another 3rd party app necessary and time consuming; highliting:

The freely available functionality within google maps is so wildly beyond that of TMC, it really makes you wonder how TMC manages to hoodwink companies into paying for the service. If someone from google was to spend 10 minutes of their lunch break on a competing service, TMC would be out of business within a year.

It would be funny how awful the TMC App is, if it were not for the web hosted version of the service, which is so criminally bad it ought to be used in computer science courses to illustrate how poor UX can actually get.

This is the most unreliable app on my phone. Something as simple as tracking mileage accurately is beyond the reach of this application. I’m forever manually logging details, deleting the app, reinstalling the app and transferring onto the desktop version to try and keep on top of business mileage. Why our company keeps persisting is beyond me. Update Sept 23: nothing’s changed. It seems that every week there is a different niggle with this app. Aside from the fact that tracking is still very hit and miss, I.e. sometimes it works but mostly it won’t track at all, the app keeps throwing in little hurdles just to keep its users entertained. A few weeks back, it suddenly stopped recognising my home postcode. The very same postcode I’d been using since forever. Today… well, this is extra special… I couldn’t even log in. The log in screen’s stuck on a perpetual facial cognition loop. Where it’s recognised me but then goes through the process over and over never actually giving me access to the app. So here we go, another day of deleting the app and reinstalling it in the hope it will fix the issue! Oh, and don’t bother contacting the help desk. The company seems to be running on a shoe string budget and the staff is mostly inexperienced young kids who struggle to understand the difference between a Diesel and an EV (that one took 2 emails and a phone call to resolve). Stay clear of this app. The hassle just isn’t worth it

If I could choose 0 stars …

I’m not sure how a developer can get an app so wrong. In between regular crashes requiring manual trips to be recorded, it seems every other update breaks the app in a major way. The latest update - v.8.0.1 ensures you cannot automatically track a trip, although there is now a nice box for “pending trips” whatever they are. I would have thought basic testing would ensure that at least the basic functions of an app were working before release, but not so with this developer.

UPDATE: Yet again, with 8.0.7 the developer has managed to release a version that cannot even do the basics. We are back to auto tracking not working on both my phones and the app is unusable on my iPhone SE - it literally takes 5 minutes to respond to any command.

2ND UPDATE: v.8.0.12 is yet another class update from TMC. This one particularly mentions revising the monthly update/close off (which mysteriously disappeared in the past month) and photo galleries functionality, neither of which appear in the app. The app on my iPhone SE remains bricked.

Developer Response ,

We're sorry to hear that. The app has now been upgraded to v5.0 and includes many improvements. If you would like to get in touch we would be happy to support you and rectify any problems you feel you are having. Please drop a line to TMC Helpdesk . Kind regards, TMC
