Great app but needs to be able to import xml sent from irealpro
Hi This is quite an amazing app that really tidies up your jazz improvising mind. Great to play along to a tune and actually follow the movement on the map. However It really needs to accept songs sent from irealpro in xml. I dont want to have to rewrite every tune I want to play in full when Ive already got the chart in irealpro. So far the first 3 tunes I looked up werent in the app and I paid for the extra 1000+ songs thanks Adam
Five stars, BUT…
On the whole, MPTH for iPad is an astonishing piece of software, but there is one aspect of its UI that is utterly frustrating: inputting chords. For instance, yesterday, I was trying to create a chart for Paul Desmond’s version of “A Taste of Honey”. Its first four bars are made up of these chords: |Fm |Fm/E |Fm/Eb |Fm/D C7#9 | Having spent 5 minutes battling with the awkward process inputting the slash chords entails, I then set about searching for the C7#9. Despite using the Complete Map and Any Style options, and pressing all the C Dominant/Alt chords on the map to view the alternatives available for each, I couldn’t find a C7#9 and had settle for C7b5. After this, I gave up… The reasons for wanting to write the sequence into MTH was so I could use the analysis and upper structure functions, but inputting chords is just too exasperating. All of could be solved with a simple chord input panel, such as the one included in iReal or Chordbot. Maybe in the future this could be offered as a purchasable add-on like the Upper Structures and Target Note enhancements. There’s also the limited number of ‘styles’ (I’d really like a straighter groove for pieces like Maiden Voyage), but this isn’t such a deal breaker. Yes, I understand MTH is geared towards those who’s understanding of music theory is more advanced than mine, and that such people will have a greater knowledge of chord relationships represented on the Map, but this (what I feel is a) limitation in MTH’s interface is a real issue.
Edit: Another *really* annoying issue: there is no option in MTHP’s option to bypass the auto-lock on my iPad. The only way to prevent it locking is to disable the function in iPad’s system settings, which really is a faff.
