Magzter: Magazines, Newspapers 17+

Never having really recovered from the loss of Anne Robinson’s Saturday morning columns in The Times, and then The Telegraph, I was vaguely browsing magazines on the app when I spotted her name included on the front page of The Oldie.
What joy I had reading the article, and then to discover the wonderful Lucinda Lambton’s monthly contributions, I was hooked. One of the best things about the Magzter app is that one can look back on previous issues - all the way back to September 2015 - so I have been indulging myself and reading backwards through the decade. It is a thrill each time I discover the occasional article by Robinson, fascinating to join Lucinda and her flowering descriptions of places and people across the country. There are many fine features by the late Barry Humphries, even a couple from Dame Edna and some political comment from Sir Les Patterson that clearly offended some readers. I’m enjoying the day to day reflections of Mary Kenny and even skim through with occasional amusement the name dropping column of Gyles Brandreth. And in addition to all this there are features on talented artistes such as Larry Grayson, Charles Hawtrey, Barbara Windsor; politicians and scholars. It is a rich mix and one to be relished.

I got this to enjoy a magazine available solely through it. I saw the numerous other titles available (some I subscribe to separately) and thought this would be great.
I took out a gold subscription so I could read what I wanted and it has not worked yet once. I’m constantly asked to take out the free trial I already have. I’ve logged on and off, uninstalled and re-installed, restored purchases, used the web portal and likewise logged on and off. Nothing works. I just get error messages from within the app and confirmation messages in iOS that I have in fact an active subscription (I’ve also deactivated and reactivated that subscription)
So, so far, utterly useless.

When I first subscribed to Magzter I believed it was a model that could not endure economically; however, having been a user for a couple of years now I believe this is the future for readers and importantly the publishers too. Readers of newspapers and magazines are declining and the publishers need all readers it can get to sustain advertising revenue. So Magzter allows publishers to state increased readerships and for us, delivers the reading material we desire at a very good price. The range of magazines is very wide indeed and the daily newspapers are sufficient if not as wide. A very worthwhile buy is how I would describe Magzter.
