Lingvist: Learn Languages Fast 4+

I have an early intermediate level of Spanish from GCSE and have been looking for something that will help me reach a more advanced level, as most apps out there tend to be more for beginners. And since finding this app my vocab has grown hugely, but the best part is how this app teaches you all the hard grammar of the language but keeps it in context making it easy to learn. Unlike other apps I’ve tried like Duolingo and Memrise they seem to focus solely on vocabulary and most of which isn’t common conversation vocab that you would use daily. But Lingvist has the perfect combination of the most well known vocab and teaches you all the grammar. I don’t normally write reviews for apps but I felt that this app is so underrated and deserves to be more well known by everyone! Also whilst on holiday in Spain I was impressed by how much more I understood the Spanish speakers than the year before and was even complimented by them for my Spanish! Definitely get this app!!! And it’s freee 😁😁

Ive tried the japanese learning function of the app out for a bit - here is my honest opinion.

Its pretty decent for what it is, which is a vocab learner. If you have a long attention span, you can sit and learn vocab pretty easily and relatively fast. From what Ive seen, the grammar tips seem very limited. There is really no other function but to repeat vocab again and again, which is useful but, and this is where my main issue arises, not worth £8.99 a month. I think that price is ludicrous for such a limited app, I assume that the Japanese learning version is incomplete because I don’t think that its an acceptable amount of money for such a limited resource. I would think a one time purchase of around £10 would be much more realistic. The app seems to advertise itself as using AI to help learn language, but from what I can see it is nothing groundbreaking that hasnt been done before, for cheaper. I would love to see AI put to more innovative use in the app, perhaps with AI tutors or AI games?

In conclusion, useful for vocab but too expensive for such a limited Japanese learning experience.

Great concept, enjoy learning through it, but since the roll out of updates from around mid-2020 it feels like I’m constantly on a beta version and support has been pretty unhelpful so far.

Key issues are word duplication in vocabulary list (which counts towards the total word list I presume! And there’s a fair few not just a couple - so how precise are the metric that counts the total and displays charts!? To me, that’s a fundamental part of the app and if that’s not been tested to work... plus how are we meant to properly use the vocabulary list with all the duplicates in the way?) and randomly since the new deck update (I’m about 1.2k words in) got a message that I’ve completed all 6k and we’ll add you to a new list. I’m nowhere near the 6k — another things that’s not been tested prior staging I presume. Don’t see a point emailing support again as they’ll say no one else has raised this issue. Not a great help!

Appreciate the strive towards the new features etc. but if you could please test them better before staging up or please just take me off the beta version list if I’m on it (it sure feels like I am!!) and leave me be in a stable version 🙏
