On www.kompass.de/outdoorkarte/, PRO members have access to additional maps (public transportation, topography, Switzerland), advanced tour planning, and a clear and fast tour search. Saved tours are automatically synchronized with the app.
FREE TRIAL PERIOD OF THE PRO SUBSCRIPTION:
The app with basic features (base map, location, tour recording) is free (KOMPASS Basic). With a KOMPASS PRO membership, you have access to all features and content. After registering, we offer you a trial period for PRO (activatable on www.kompass.de in your profile settings). The subscription ends automatically.
THE GENUINE HIKING MAPS & OUTDOOR MAPS:
Our maps strike the ideal balance between content density and clarity. Not every hiking trail is a via ferrata, and not every mountain hut is accessible by a mountain bike trail. Paths, trails, and climbs, rest stops, viewpoints, landmarks, etc., are clearly marked or labeled. As a PRO member, you can easily read this information and more from the map materials of over 500 KOMPASS hiking maps.

You’ll be lucky if it works first time
I purchased a waterproof 1:35k Kompass map of Cinque Terre. I followed the instructions and unlocked the card. The map is listed under “Manage my maps” on the app but any attempt to download it (swipe and select download) is directed to to the screen to purchase the Pro version. Despite what the developers have said to other users who have had this problem, it is NOT possible to download your paper map to your app using the basic version of the app.
UPDATE: Following a response from the developer (see below) I repeated the steps outlined above EXACTLY . This time the map downloaded, I did nothing differently. Increased rating to 3*. It’s clear Kompass needs to improve it’s instructions (only by reading these reviews do you learn to swipe the map name to download it; all app faqs inly in German).

thank you for your feedback.
If you have activated a map with the ISBN, it may be that this hiking map is grayed out. You can easily download them for the offline use by selecting the map in the list under "manage maps" and swipe from right to left over the selected map. You will now see 3 options: Delete, Rename or Offline Download. If you click on the download symbol the map will be downloaded again. During download, the map will turn red. When the download is finished and the map has a green layer you can be sure that this map will be available offline as well. As a non-pro, you can only use one offline hiking map at a time.

App downloads the wrong map (not the map purchased)
I purchased a paper map of western Harz mountain area (Germany). Tried to download to the app using its ISBN as per (German)instructions, but the app automatically linked to download a map of South Tyrol (Italy!) and doesn’t offer me the map I purchased. Very disappointed. No English language instructions for this on app or website which doesn’t help. (The app itself looks useful, but it needs to download the correct purchased map, and offer English translation for instructions and FAQ).

Nice maps when I could actually use them!
I used the app before on a iPhone X woth the previous OS and with the PRO version of the app: the maps are amazing all the rest need a lot of work! The search function takes millions years to actually give any results... when it does!
Then I got an iPhone 11 and updated the OS to the most recent one and I can’t even get into the map!
Summary: if the app doesn’t get developed properly I might as well buy only the paper maps (which are just beautiful!)
