Description
Completely redesigned for 2014, iControlAV5 gives you complete control of your compatible Pioneer AV Receiver and Blu-ray Disc player using your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

Not only can you control the basic features of your AV receiver like volume, switching inputs, select the listening mode and power on and off. iControlAV5 turns your iOS device into an advanced remote control, giving full control (i.e. SOUND EXPLORER) of your new AV receiver, and in a fun and intuitive way.
Designed for both iPhone and iPad, the iPad version has a unique user interface specifically designed to take advantage of the iPad device's larger screen.
*Set the network standby --> "ON" beforehand, you can turn ON your AV receiver with iControlAV5.

Expected better from Pioneer
I use this app for my VSX-930.
When the app works it’s great. But most of the time the app randomly fails to find and connect to the unit even if it was connected 5 minutes beforehand. Usually the only way to get round this is to physically disconnect the amp from the mains and plug it back in. (This is annoying if you are half way through a film for example). Usually this will fix it but not always.
It is a shame because the app allows you to access handy features that in the case of the VSX-930 you can’t otherwise access. Adjusting EQ’s, bass and dialogue volumes to name a few things. To me this is a quite bit of a design flaw.
It would seem looking at other reviews that the fault is not with my unit and that the app isn’t very well maintained. Which is sad really because I would expect more from a high quality brand who’s products are far from cheap to buy.
If the app was more reliable I would give 5 stars because the features are great, but if you can hardly ever access them, what’s the point?
Needs Update
This app worked well for years. I have two Pioneer surround sound amps and it’s by far the easiest way to utilize all the features. Now it crashes constantly or fails to connect. Probably means I’ll have to buy a couple of new amps as otherwise you can’t get access to all the features with the remote. They won’t be Pioneer if this is the support they give to old yet still operating equipment.
Works Well
My receiver is in another room to the listening room and the app reliably makes this very convenient to control. Allows for extensive functionality of the receiver, unlike earlier versions for older equipment where functions were limited. One small issue I have found is the app will not at times connect to the receiver when it is in standby mode, but a workaround is just to power it up via another hdmi device say your connected tv and the app connects fine or physically turn on the receiver.
