Game Changer
This is fantastic! So easy to search for any vintage via this app, pulling items from so many vintage sources it’s really easy to find and compare. It’s also incredibly fast. Also, just one click takes you to the seller’s vintage shop, I love it!
You can filter your search results too, I’d like more filter options but I understand these are in the pipeline. You can get around this somewhat by adjusting your search criteria.
Definitely better than searching multiple websites.
Has similar search issues to other vintage apps
Great that it pulls in pieces from eBay and Etsy etc., but it has the same issues at Etsy’s search - it pulls up ‘[era] style’ or ‘[era you didn’t search for] does [era you searched for]’, or pulls up everything vaguely related to the term you searched for, e.g. searching for “1930s dress” pulls up all dresses of all eras, or searching for “orange mini dress” returns every orange dress or every mini dress.
I’d hoped this would be an actual buy/sell app that would improve the situation for sellers compared to Etsy and eBay, and would as a search tool be much more functional for buyers, but disappointingly it’s just another inaccurate shopping search engine.

Thank you for specific feedback! We work hard to make Gem a good search engine, and we still have some work to do:
Decades are tricky, especially the examples you mentioned like ‘70s does 30s’, or ‘60s style (but repro)’. We have plans how to improve these searches, and hope to start testing them some time soon.
Regarding partial matches: Overall we first display results that include all entered search terms, and then after a break ‘partial matches’ as those can sometimes be useful.

The only way to find TRUE vintage
It’s so hard to find the real deal when you search online for vintage these days. eBay, Etsy and google all throw out all kinds of suggestions that have nothing to do with what you are looking for, and are often not actually even vintage. I don’t want to sift through hundreds or thousands of items to find a handful of genuine vintage pieces, and I don’t need to with gem search because it filters out the junk for me.
