Ratings and Reviews
A brilliant tool
Expo takes so many of the headaches out of react native development and their new EAS service let’s for easy ejection to accommodate natural limitations such as in app payments rather than trying to bend them to the point it becomes more convoluted. Props to the whole team trying to make React Native more accessible for everyone and they do it for free - that’s incredible by any standards.
Expo have lost their way recently
At one stage, Expo made it easy to develop, collaborate and release React Native apps, but now seem to have lost their way.
1. Lagging features
We constantly find Expo to be lacking essential functionality that a native app would require, causing us to have to constantly having to consider ejecting from the Expo framework.
- WebRTC support
- Force touch/3D touch
- Sharing links and images back to your app
2. Waning development
Expo were way ahead in pushing a new paradigm of consolidated development, providing a mind-blowing environment to teams releasing apps to multiple platforms. No longer.
- Collaborations are dead. Expo had the ability to collaborate on development by viewing projects from other users, in a hot-reloading kind of way. This has gone away.
- Expo had amazing tunnelling. This no longer works.
- Slow responses and uninteresting progress.
Sadly, Expo seems to feel largely abandoned as a concept— incredibly disappointing indeed.
Great app
A lot of hate from people giving little ratings. Expo is a great wrapper for React Native as well as having a live app where you can test native functionality correctly. Solid app in my opinion 👌
