Matrix-based, Element X lets you self-host your data or choose from any free public server (the default is matrix.org, but there are plenty of others to choose from). However you host, you have ownership; it’s your data. You’re not the product. You’re in control.
Interoperate natively
Enjoy the freedom of the Matrix open standard! You have native interoperability with any other Matrix-based app. So just like email, it doesn't matter if your friends, partners or customers are on a different Matrix-based app - you can still connect.

Great news everyone
This new version of Element X brings three new features:
- You can now respond to user verification requests and check the verification state
- Permalinks for rooms and messages will now be rendered with dynamic pills
- You can now swipe between medias in the gallery

Element X has come along way and is awesome all around. It’s super fast, and feels great to use being a native iOS app. And that also helps make the UI look top notch too. Plus it’s open source, meaning this app is free for everyone, forever!
Already the best Matrix client
Obvious stuff out of the way: It’s not yet (July 2023) a *full* replacement for Element.
This is a fantastic application. Sliding sync is the future of Matrix, and Element X is shaping up to be the fastest, most native-feeling Matrix client there is. With the amazing development and design team, it’s already my daily driver.
No way to share multiple photos
No way to share multiple photos or video files at the same time. No way to share photos/videos from system context menu.
Otherwise it has potential to be really great messenger app but adding dozen of photos one by one is only for most patient users… meanwhile we need to use different app.
I hope it can be improved soon.
