Description
EchoSOS, the live saving smart phone app that helps you prepare for emergencies. EchoSOS sends your location to the local emergency service anywhere in the world and provides information about nearby emergency rooms in selected regions.
How does the app work?
1. In an emergency, open the app: EchoSOS recognises which country you are in and displays the correct emergency service numbers.
2. Dial an emergency number by pressing the appropriate key.
3. Your position will be transmitted so emergency services can find you.
Features
• Displays the local emergency numbers - wherever you are
• Option to add personal emergency numbers
• Nearby emergency rooms and their occupancy (available in selected regions)
• No mobile data? No problem, you location will be transmitted by SMS
• Tried and tested by Swiss emergency services since 2011, available worldwide
• Test function

Not compatible with iPad
This app is NOT compatible with iPad - I keep getting an error message "your device cannot make calls". Presumably this means its not compatible with iPod either.
Flawed
Speaking as someone who takes 999 calls, the idea for this app is good BUT once it has made the call, you need to tell the operator (me) that you are using this app, I then have to go to the Echo 112 website, type your number in and then finally I will be shown your position on a google map.
Firstly, if you are using your mobile, then the gsm position info is usually passed to the emergency operator anyway.
Secondly, if you go to the compass app on your phone it already gives your latitude and longitude.
Thirdly, any mapping software on your phone will show you your position, which you can then tell the operator. They would much rather you explain where you are, rather than have to go web surfing to find your location.
As a last thought large IT systems fail quite often, so this will not always be available to the operator anyway. So try to know where you are before you make the call. ( probably good advice anyway. )
Fantastic if it works!!
Hope I never have to use this app but I travel in Europe a lot and don't know all the emergency numbers. At least I'll always have access to the correct number for the correct country!
