Description

Doppler is a beautifully designed FLAC player and MP3 player with support for many file formats. Import music and playlists to listen offline, and edit song and album artwork and info without syncing.

Doppler's design adapts itself to match your music, and offers quick access to your now playing queue. Tap straight into a recently added album or use search to browse your music.

Music and playlists are always stored local on your device, so you have your full Library whenever you need it — even offline. Doppler even imports new files automatically to make sure your Library is always up to date.

Great app Apple could learn from

For anyone who knows the frustration of having an existing music collection and Apple having thrown us away - with their modern apps only catering to people wanting to pay subscription money for a music service you don’t need... Enter Doppler; which lets you take the music files you already own and have on your computer; and (a radical concept) put those files onto your phone so you can (revolutionary concept) listen to the music you own on your handheld portable computer; which was built based on top of a handheld portable music player Apple might remember called “iPod”. Doppler gets it done, looks good, and plays without a hitch. While the transfer process is not as smooth as Apple themselves might be able to make it, it’s still fairly painless.

The developer is great too, and sorted a bug with album grouping very quickly.

Good but needs work.

Good enough for me to support the author by purchasing. Needs work: bigger topmost buttons (left chevron, sharing and menu) for we with really poor vision, no genre tag support, no composer tag support (ie classical stuff - cannot search for Widor let alone display any such meta), the macOS Doppler wifi sender never remembers its onscreen position and has to be moved out of the way each time (surprisingly annoying), it has an unexpected precedence for AlbumArtist which it also confusingly cites onscreen as being Artist (have had to go back and re-edit my source material). I feel Doppler deserves more than 3 stars and will award it 4 stars if the dev adds composer tag support (shown and searchable). 5 star award only if the buttons’ operation is improved over the current style-over-substance ‘standard’ format to a point where I can actually reliably operate them with my handicap(s). I noted that the macOS wifi transfer slowed a little after about 10,000 tracks had been added but am now going around again after recognising that Doppler was doing things differently - mea culpa. Will update this review when I catch back up or if the dev is both responsive and effective. As title - Doppler is good enough for me to purchase but to get more stars from me needs Ed the dev to put in more magic:-)

Saved my CD collection that Apple deleted

A few years back bought an iPad as I didn’t need a full blown laptop anymore ( retired ). Transferred all my music from iTunes to the iPad and my iPhone. Everything fine until I upgraded to an IPhone 16 a few weeks back and set it up from the old phone.
You’ll know what’s coming next - all the tracks from CDs disappeared. Over 20 years worth of ripped tracks.
Naively I had not paid attention to the changes Apple had made to the Music App, and it seems a lot of people like me also got caught out. Being asked to subscribe to Apple Music to pay for stuff I already owned made me furious.
Thankfully the tracks were still on my iPad. So I can transfer, them using an app called audio converter, from there to Doppler on my iPhone.
Unfortunately it can only do it one track at a time, but I’ll persevere. Doppler has rescued me.
Suggestion - if its possible for Doppler to transfer the Doppler library/files en masse from iPad to Doppler on my iPhone, or if theres a similar workaround to to transfer batches of files, I’d nominate the author of this software for a Nobel Prize.
