Ratings and Reviews
A must get App
This app is professional, well-thought out and structured and is a must if you are concerned about self-harm or feeling suicidal and don't know what to do next. I highly recommend it.
Not Very Useful
Good intentions. But the app is very limited. It only has details of local real world help for Bristol. Not much use to the world outside Bristol.
The layout is orientated for portrait and does not adjust to landscape. Fixed to iPhone proportions it looks adrift in the middle of my iPad screen. The top of the app is a flashing animation that cycles rapidly and makes my anxiety skyrocket. If you must have cheap animations, at least show some courtesy to users and include a stop/pause/disable button. I found myself clicking on any link just to avoid the homepage.
Content might help those who have no prior experience/knowledge of selfharm/suicidal ideation but not much use for people with personal history or professional background.
Found this app via link on NHS website. I think of this app as a third rate way to try to whitewash the disgraceful failure to provide adequate mental health care for British people. Its better than nothing. But like an asprin for ebola sufferers it is not a real solution.
Developer Response ,
Many thanks for taking the time to comment and give feedback, which is very helpful! Sorry for taking so long to respond - we've only just seen your reply and didn't get notified. In response to some of the points you raise:
- Bristol specific information: We only started off with Bristol and hope to expand to other areas. We're just adding a new page for Exeter. Watch this space.
- Home page animation: We've put this in to allow users to access useful sources of support directly from the home screen. We've had some positive user feedback about it but will look into this again. Thanks for mentioning it.
- Layout: While the app works on an iPad, it's really been only designed for use on the iPhone. Sorry if it looks a bit lost on your iPad screen - but hopefully it works well otherwise.
- Target group: The app is mainly aimed at people with little/early experience of self-harm and others close to them (parents/teachers) who want a reliable introduction.
- Aim: The app does claim to provide a substitute for care, but rather wants to encourage people to seek help and signpost to available resources by providing reliable information.
If you have further thoughts and ideas for improving this app, please get in touch - we'd love to hear from you. You can find our contact details on the app, or on our website - www.expertselfcare.com. Thanks again! ~Knut
Will definitely recommend to my friend
