Description

Do you have a database, library or collection which you need to use on-the-go, even when you don't have web access? If you do, this is the application for you. Using CSV Touch you can easily search, sort and look through your collections when away from your computer. So start carrying your DVD and CD library, your book collection, your wine testing notes, or any other database, library or list with you!

CSV Touch works by reading CSV files, a file format which almost all databases and applications like Excel, Filemaker, Access, Bento and others can export to. To get the CSV files on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch, you can import them from the local 'Files' app and all the cloud storage it supports, from attachments, directly from the internet, and other ways. And if you download the files directly from internet, it is trivial to download again in case the file has been updated (manually or at regular scheduled intervals). Once read, the app allows for highly customised ways of how to look at the data.

Note that CSV Touch does not allow editing of your database; it is intended to be a versatile app for searching and visualising your data. See http://csvtouch.wordpress.com for more information and screenshots. If you think CSV Touch might be for you but are not sure, you can try CSV Lite which is free but restricted (only 1 CSV file with 150 items).

Useful, well-designed and very well documented CSV viewer

I wanted to be able to take my references with me when in libraries or second hand bookshops so that I knew what I had already and didn't buy duplicates! I would have loved to have had an automatically sync'd database on the iPhone, but that's not possible yet (Sep '08). This app provides a very easy and straightforward solution: export the data, import it onto the iPhone and then read it. It is a snapshot of the data, but it means I've got access to my data on the go very easily. And it's easy to update.

It was easy to dump out data from my bibliographic database into a comma-separated text file. It was a little less easy to get the file into CSV Touch. This was not a problem with the application, but with my use of it. The accessible help files made me realise my error very quickly and showed me how to do what I needed step-by-step. When I had a question, the developer responded very quickly and gave a helpful (and friendly) response. Updating the data is simple from within the app.

One reviewer has mentioned things he'd like the app to do. I think that would take a lot of development work. This app seems solid after a few week's use: it does what it says elegantly and flexibly.

This software is fantastic

I’m not kidding. I export a database with thousands of entries from sql to excel, format it how I like, then export it as CSV, and if I’m out and about and need to look something up, I can using CSV Touch, with lightning speed, saving me from endless tedium trying to do it online. Very convenient. Thank you so much for writing it. Please keep it going. It’s perfect.

Simple, but effective

Needed an offline database for on the move. Does exactly that. I have 400 animal records on mine, works like a dream. Only slight down, would like to be able to search individual columns without having to change settings.
