Plus, combine Capture Pilot with the additional “Camera Control” in-app purchase to transform your iOS device into a virtual camera display, so you can remotely fire your camera and control essential capture parameters from your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.

For use with photo editing software Capture One Pro, Capture Pilot is the perfect tool for teams and multi-user shoots, while clients can use it to review shots in real-time and better communicate with photographers.

“Whether it is clients, make-up artists, wardrobe stylists or photographers, or anyone who needs to keep an eye on the shoot, Capture Pilot allows them to see every detail of what is being shot. Most importantly, it successfully engages the entire team in the photographic process."

- Daryn Labier, Blast Digital Studio

“In all, I’m extremely impressed with Phase One’s iOS application Capture Pilot. It enhances the creative process in ways that you won’t be able to predict.”

NOTES
-------

To check for supported cameras and tethering support visit: https://www.captureone.com/features/supported-cameras

Capture One Pro (11.1 or later) with supported camera tethered connection is required when pairing the camera control app with a Sony camera.

Capture Pilot can connect directly over Wi-Fi to a Phase One IQ2 or IQ3 Digital back.

Focus controls is currently only supported when used directly with a Wi-Fi capable IQ Digital Back running Feature Update 4.

Capture Pilot can also connect over Wi-Fi to Capture One Pro (versions 20, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7 and 6) for browsing Capture One collections, or for control of supported cameras tethered to Capture One.

Capture Pilot can use the GPS unit in your device to access and record location data. Synchronization of the recorded location data with images can happen either simultaneously when Capture Pilot is connected to a Phase One IQ2 or IQ3 digital back, or when the Capture Pilot connection is re-established later. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life, therefore a “Turn Geo tagging Off” timer option is available in the Capture Pilot preferences.

You can download a trial version of Capture One Pro from www.captureone.com/en/download-trial

Why has development stopped?

Come on! Download to device and ‘Open in” option please!!

And the ability to add comments to an image would be great!

The perfect Covid companion to Capture One

I’ve been using Capture One for a few years now (having transitioned from LR which I’d used since it’s release) and absolutely love it and Capture Pilot which has been a particular hit during the pandemic. It seems that a lot of the negative comments here are due to people misunderstanding Capture Pilot’s role and so having unrealistic expectations of what it can do and I feel the need to stick up for it. I see it as an incredibly effective tool for collaborating on a shoot and have to say, my clients LOVE it. They can sit away from the shoot (Covid safe) and see what I’m doing in Capture One without everyone hovering around one screen, and provide instant feedback including rating the images, zooming in and seeing my edits and adjustments immediately. I can share all the images, or only the ones that I want to share. That the client can download the app for free too, is amazing. I’ve even worked out how to get it working remotely for clients who aren’t present (again a real selling point for my clients during the Covid restrictions). You only need the paid version if you want to include some basic camera functionality which I find quite handy for product shoots. This is a perfect example of an app which does a very specific thing extremely well and further cements Capture One’s reputation as the tethering king.

Unprofessional

Good for wanna-be-pro amateurs or maybe for the use of PO’s flag-ship digi backs.

No context menu for rating etc. avail. To rate a shot i have to open it in single view, rate it and return to capture folder preview which then needs to be completely RELOADED EVERY SINGLE TIME. Really?
Ever tried that with hundreds of images in one session? Sometimes breaking down sessions into smaller chunks is no option, so i expect the previews to remain in cache at least during one culling session on my iPad Pro.

What has been apparent for many years manifests itself in this app, too. Phase One keeps trying to sell upgrade after upgrade (the desktop versions) after upgrade without ever sorting out existing bugs or making the base software smooth and truly professional. Despite all praise (i know there isnt anything else truly aimed at pros) this app isnt fit for the pro.

Do your homework, Phaseone and provide excellent product improvements before constantly urging your users in expensive upgrades that do not provide any improvement other than cosmetic changes!

Developer Response ,

Hi sailographer and thanks for your feedback, which is noted :)
When you see a photo in fullscreen you should be able to swipe left/right to see the next/previous one. And so you should be able to continue the rating. No need to go back to the browser. But yes, the photos should be cached as you said and we will look into that. Best regards, Jens Schwarzer.
