Not fully mature yet But huge potential

I was looking for an alternative to Navionics (Already have Garmin chart plotter) and had high hopes. I am a Yachtmaster and do a lot of sailing. Tried this app on both my iPad and iPhone. Took the trial and initial impressions of the cartography.
Then things went wrong.... had issues with subscriptions and cartography. Contacted the first line of support but seemed to waste my time.
However after writing my original review outlining the issues I got a direct contact from a member of the CMap boating development team, they had already fixed some of my issues in an update (released) yesterday and are working on the others.
In conclusion, I think this app has enormous potential to provide a viable alternative to navionics applications (including inavx), as long as the team focus on the key value and don’t get bogged down. the mobile nav space is growing fast as mobile platforms provide more flexibility, performance and better power consumption than dedicated legacy in the non-commercial space.

Really sorry about the issue you experienced and the poor support experience you had. If you could reach out to them once more and ask to be put in touch with the mobile team directly we can provide you with a bit more assistance on the issues you had.

Based on what you say, it looks like you were experiencing some issues with our beta charts where some users who switched charts would experience poor download experiencer dropped downloads. This issue should now be fully resolved.

With the latest app release, there is only one subscription level and no separate chart regions to purchase.

Unable to connect with support or view faq

For some reason the support site does not appear to be working

I’m a little unsure about this product, I clicked on a map region and got the message only subscribers can unlock this region, but I can’t find anywhere to do this.. and even despite this it’s downloading something I cannot view.

Lack of NMEA integration is very limiting.

Awesome piece of software

I downloaded this software out of curiosity, originally. Now I use it to help plan routes when we borrow my wife’s Aunties yacht before we make the trip from home to the south coast. It has been invaluable as a quick navigation aid, and the wind and tidal flow screens enhance it further.

Our plans are to buy our own yacht and this will definitely be up for consideration as our navigation software. We currently use the free version, but if went sailing regularly, I would definitely be considering buying the full version.

Hope this helps if you are considering buying or using a piece of navigation software. Definitely worth a look and a play.
