Bitdefender Mobile Security 4+

For me, excellent

I like it, have been using IPVanish for over 2 years now But it keeps crashing on my iPhone and iPad, therefore didn’t want to install it on my MacBook, my son suggested Bitfender, so I purchased it and installed it on my iPhone and iPad, I find it simple to use, works silently in the background and no crashes, one feels safe in ‘Web mode’ yet switching to full on VPN mode feels really safe for any sensitive data being used, would certainly recommend it for Mac OS, also installed on my MacBook without any problems yet, certainly worth 5 stars and at this price point it’s a steal.

Free version works, paid version does not

I purchased the VPN annual subscription after testing it out on the free version. It worked well for 5 months and then one day started throwing an error 4865 and wouldn’t connect. I am quite technical but couldn’t get it to work through reinstalls and checking settings etc. I tried on several IOS devices, different ISP networks and I even created a new account to test. I reported it to their customer service and had some correspondence explaining that it seems to be something to do with the location setting in IOS because the free version (200mb limit) still works fine. It is only when I try to use the account that I have actually PAID a lot of money for, that this connection fails. I am now almost at the end of my annual subscription and have had about 7 months of abject failure from this company to make this work. Seems other reviewers are experiencing similar things from the many 1 star reviews. Avoid this VPN, there are others that are better, that actually work!

Only one of the functions seems to be useful and that’s the Account Privacy. I don’t know why I have to make a specific check instead of BD keeping a check all the time.

I agree with another reviewer that 200Mb free traffic is totally inadequate. And I haven’t yet worked out whether, having turned the VPN on, I can turn it off again. It doesn’t look possible. So you turn it on because you’re going to transmit sensitive data and then you’re stuck with it. Even if you don’t need to send sensitive data again for hours.

Also, where’s the warnings? In various circumstances, a badge should appear on the app icon to warn that there’s a problem.

There seems to be little that a user can actually DO, so I suppose that’s why there’s little in the way of guidance.

Overall, the user should be much more in control.

I had an issue that now escapes me but, as a result, I deleted the app from my iPhone while Support was supposed to fix the issue. But my previous difficulty led to closer attention to what the app is supplied to be. And the first contradiction is that the app is presented as being “free”. I already have a licence/subscription for 5 devices used in the desktop environment. How can the app be “free” if the mobile device is added to the desktop licence/subscription? And, again, if the app is “free”, why is there any reference to subscriptions in the App Store description?

You should be able to turn off the VPN and in case you have some issue regarding this, please provide us more details.
