Can't get it to read external files

I've been playing around with this trying to get it to read an external file. The manual doesn't go into a great deal of detail but I simply cannot get it to work, and there are no contact details for advice. I will look elsewhere.

Really basic

I've updated this review to add a star because BestBasic finally did what I wanted. My COVID lockdown project had created 28 Markdown files and I wanted my BestBasic program to scan these to create new Markdown files containing sorted cross references to the 450 or so level 3, 4 and 5 headings.
But, coding this was slow going. e.g. To switch from program code to view the output file took 3 clicks, and then another three clicks to get back to the source code and then it did not remember where I was in the program. With around 300 unnumbered lines of code this was tedious. Simple issues like this and the basic documentation lost BestBasic 1 star in my review.
The "flakey" stuff I had previously reported may be BestBasic faithfully reproducing much loved quirks of Minimal Basic, but that too slowed me down and why I have taken off another star.
BestBasic is cheap to buy but overall I would rather pay more for a more advanced implementaion of Basic.
