Well worth trying

Took a risk on this at the relatively high price for an iPad game but really enjoying so far. A few version 1 bugs but none are serious (at least so far). Engaging plot and good interface, although a few obvious improvements could make it great - the game is a port of the desktop version, and there are times when you have to be very careful that you are pressing what you expect.
If you are an RPG fan, you should buy - this may be the strongest offering on the iPad for the genre.

Disgruntleddonnie

This game is plagued by a bug that opens up the inventory screen whenever I click on a door. This makes progress impossible. If I load an earlier save I can usually make some progress before it happens again.

There is a good game here but it's basically unplayable because of the bugs.

A complex, in-depth RPG for connoisseurs

Jeff Vogel, the man responsible for this game, has spent over a decade now crafting well thought-out, complex, turn-based RPGs for PCs and Macs, aiming at the enthusiasts of the genre. And it shows. With Avadon he managed also a trick which many had failed at - to make the game instantly accessible without compromising any of its complexity. The result is a game which quickly draws you in through nice graphics and an appealing storyline, and then keeps you fascinated with its complex game mechanics, skill tree progressions, challenging and strategical turn-based combat and a multitude of storyline choices and sub-quests. A cherry on the top of the icing is that the writing is well done and literary. As the storyline unfolds, it develops into a rich tapestry of political intrigue, courtly back-stabbing, power struggles, espionage and murder most foul. A nice change from a pseudo-teenage protagonist saving the world from an ancient evil. Here, the storyline allows for you to join either of the two sides vying for power in Avadon, and thus for two endings which are very much the opposites of each other.

If challenging turn-based RPGs are your cup of coffee, if you liked old Ultimas, or Baldur's Gate games, or Planescape: the Torment on PC - then look no further, this is currently (June 2011) the best offering of this kind for iOS.
