Ratings and Reviews
Auria Pro. I thought it was just me.
I can only give my own experience, from my own point of view. I have managed to create a track in Auria Pro. I bought it after coming to iPad music creation, from a pretty awful experience of PC-based DAWs. 8 years down the line, I have established that GarageBand is my speed, and for me the issue is that Auria Pro is so like the PC DAW environment, it’s just as off-putting. It took me a miserable year to get a lousy bassline laid down on my PC - technical problems and barriers of all sorts abounded, and there was almost zero help out there.
Luckily, the iOS and iPadOS world, is very different in that regard! There are one or two pretty expert users of Apple’s own baby DAW, and Cubasis, giving actual reliable help to new users, so the technical obstacles are acknowledged and kept in check. IE you can press on with actually making music. This was Apple’s intention with GB on any platform, it’s plain to see. Apple made it for me and everyone else too.
Auria Pro, completely replicates the ‘big boy’ DAW experience, and that’s why that one track I made years ago, will be all I ever make in it. I can’t speak to its technical underpinnings, only that I personally found it hard to learn, and it appears some of that may have been down to technical issues. Auria Pro was given huge fanfare early on. Perhaps it was ahead of its time - even GB didn’t run very well on the early iPads, and having moved to a 2Tb iPad Pro M1, I now realise 32Gb of SSD, is meagre to say the least. I tested, and it takes 75Gb spare SSD on iPads, to reliably run a stable DAW like GarageBand. Maybe if Auria Pro were made in time for Apple Silicon, it would be different. It’s not for me, however powerful my iPad gets. 3 stars, only because I managed to get a tune recorded in it.
Still completely dreadful
I have 30 years studio experience, working as a pro all that time. I purchased this expensive app many years ago in the first months of it’s life to give me a very portable mobile solution. It was dreadful when it came out, and it is still dreadful in 2024…
I requested a refund back then - not forthcoming. So just for a laugh, I thought I’d give it a try again today. Long story short, it was no fun at all and seems completely un-developed and just as garbage as it has always been.
I am a certified Ableton instructor and use Live, Pro Tools and Reaper on a daily basis. On iPad, because Auria does not, and has never worked properly I am stuck with using Cubasis on the tablet for quick ideas when inspiration strikes.
So what is wrong with Auria? The list is extensive, to say the least…
Endless crashes, illogical workflow, hopeless / non-existent integration of plugins, including the entire Fabfilter suite, any plugin synths etc etc…
If you spend your money on this monumental ripoff, all you will have purchased is endless, unreliable, unusable frustration… and they will fail to refund your purchase, despite the product being completely unsuitable and clearly a fraud of an app… because to describe it in it’s name as “Pro” is a total fallacy.
Apple should intervene and fully refund dissatisfled customers and recover the money from the “developer”.
I truly cannot think of a single positive thing to say about Auria “Pro”
Doesn’t work with midi controllers?
I’ve had this for some time and never been able to use it. My midi controller appears under midi settings, but that’s all it does. This app doesn’t appear to be setup for anything other than editing midi from elsewhere. There is no way to use a midi controller to write music with it as far as I can tell.
