Audirvana on Mac-mini and A+ Remote Work Brilliantly

Update 11 Nov 2019
Thanks for Developer feedback. Working well now with latest updates. New interface is quick and stable and in my view, an improvement. Sounds as good as ever. Excellent at what it does

Update: The new version of this app (as of 31 Oct 2019) does not show Favorite Albums, Tracks or Artists. Completely unpopulated screen for local and Qobuz music. Cannot find any information about fixing this in support area. This is the main benefit of Audirvana for me so no 5 star review unless it can be fixed.

I use the A+ Remote to select albums ripped onto a Mac-mini with JRiver. The JRiver remote control app works well but the advantage of A+ Remote is that it will play albums from Qobuz (and Tidal) and it’s easy to switch between the local library and the streaming service for individual tracks as well as albums and I find it works seamlessly with no annoying breaks. The Mac is connected by Ethernet cable rather than wirelessly with both Audirvana and Qobuz programs left open. Output is via USB to a Digital Analog Converter and then the Hi Fi system. Sound quality output from Audirvana is excellent. Really happy with the A+ App

Can you ensure you have the latest version of Audirvana on your Mac? The current is 3.5.25. (FYI, some old 3.5 versions before the Audirvana Remote 2.0 release had an issue for Favorites display on the remote).

Updated review - much better

I previously wrote quite a negatively critical review of this app but, to be fair I think it has improved a great deal. It works well, now seems to connect well and is nice to use. There are two (possibly three) things would make it much more useable. When filtering albums it would be really good to have a search bar at the top of each criteria being used - I have literally hundreds of composers in my collection and when selecting say William Byrd, that is fine as near the top of the list, but Shostakovich is near the bottom - a ridiculous scroll to get to! So a search bar that narrows the list down so we can select the items needed. This would be useful also when selecting genres as Audirvana does not split out albums with multiple genres so they end up repeated many times. The second useful change would be to split out the genres properly. A third would be a way to take off all the filters applied with one tappable item.

Well, what a let-down!

Beware! Operation can be flakey. App seems to have a hard time dealing with its data. Screen flickers, playback stops etc. And perhaps most annoying of all, the playback screen does not allow browsing previous or upcoming tracks without actually playing them.... that ol’ temptation of swiping left or right to browse then tapping a track’s artwork to choose - ahhh those were the days! I guess we’ve outgrown intuition. £3.99 and the promise of a ‘really good app’ would be a fairer price for this work in progress.
*** UPDATE *** Received a ‘considered’ reply (minus any ref’ to faults, obviously :/) from developer - thank you. TBH, I would have happily paid 10 x the price for an app THAT WORKED! I wouldn’t suffer with this if it were free. And no chance of a refund, nice System! To all those giving *glowing* reviews - lucky you. Maybe I’m just using the faulty version. When buying an app for use with a 14K audio system I guess I’m expecting it to work, not to have to troubleshoot every time I want to listen to music....too much to ask I guess. Last few days, app won’t play anything; so I’m done. Will use iTunes until I can find some professional software.

Developer Response ,

Hello, thank you for your feedback regarding our Remote App. If you want to see the upcoming track you can do it by going in the play queue by taping the icon on the right corner of the screen in the playback screen.
