Description

Anonymous Camera lets anonymise photos and videos in real time, locally on device.

→ Facial recognition and full-body anonymisation: the app can recognise faces and anonymise them either by applying a solid colour or blur. You can choose to hide either people’s whole bodies or just their face. (full-body anonymisation is only available on iPhone XS and up)

→ Remove metadata: users can choose to delete any and all metadata associated with the video, including time, date, and location.

→ Distorted audio: distort the audio track to anonymize people’s voices.

→ Split screen: control how much of the frame is anonymized to perform interviews while protecting your sources.

→ Real time processing: files are anonymized in real-time using on-device machine learning and computer vision technology, ensuring that the data is untraceable from the beginning.

→ Local storage: all processing and storage is done locally. Nothing ever goes to the cloud (try us and use it with flight mode enabled).

Good App with space for improvements

The App is a good idea (especially in Germany), but has a few failings. The circle is too big for most uses and needs a setting for the size. On the settings side, I find it annoying that they aren‘t remembered. It starts with a solid yellow circle 🟡 which can‘t be reduced in size, can‘t have the colour changed, and most annoying, disregards the use of any previous setting that was used!
Why oh why do I have to go into settings and change it each time I use the App????? 🤬

Suggestion for improvement

When the app stops recognising a face it simply removes the blur. Any sudden motion will reveal the face for a few seconds which renders the anonymisation ineffective. I suggest leaving the blur for at least a few seconds to allow the ai to catch up with the face. Especially if there are no dramatic pixel changes in the area, the odds are the face is still there, just not getting recognised by the software.
