An Apple "Staff Favorite" since 2008, ABC Animals provides a wonderful set of interactive flashcards that aid in teaching young children to recognize, say and print English alphabet letters. Intuitively swipe between cards with the flick of a finger. Fun and engaging animal illustrations help to keep learning ABC's fun! Audio accompanies each card providing a letter name, associated animal name and the phonetics for each letter.
INSTRUCTIONS
Swipe between flashcards. Press letter or animal images to repeat audio. Tap the scribble icon in the lower left corner of the app to practice tracing both uppercase and lowercase letters right on the screen of your iPhone. Tap the icon again to continue swiping between flashcards.
PREFERENCES
Preferences for ABC Animals are available by tapping the settings icon on the lower right of the app. Preferences allow a parent to choose the handwriting method best suited for their child, enable or disable any or all sound effects and prevent the tracing of letters if practicing writing skills or phonics isn't age appropriate. For bilingual families and parents who want to teach their children ABC's in other languages, ABC Animals can also be used in English (both US & UK), French, German or Spanish. Change your preferred application language for ABC Animals in iOS’s Settings application by selecting ABC Animals and then setting your Preferred Language.

Some use of phonic sounds means good for UK Reception children
Was looking for a flash card style app to help my son with learning his abc's. The schools in UK now concentrate on phonics i.e. abc rather than ABC, so needed an app that used lower case letters instead or as well as capitals. This shows both, and whilst the initial sound associated with the flash card says the capital for the letter, when you double tap the card it repeats both the capital and lower case sounds, so this is a good compromise for me.
Did find the app a bit buggy, does tend to crash pretty often. Also in the blurb it says "Preferences allow a parent to choose the type of letter tracing outline best suited for their child, enable or disable any or all sound effects" but I have still yet to find where on earth these preferences are, as I'm sure tailoring the application as promised here would improve the experience. Tried the link in iTunes for app support but, it just takes you to a page detailing the product with no support page or instructions to be found.
Overall liked the product, if they could add the lower case sound to the first side of the flash card as they do on the reverse side that would be even better. They should make the location of the preferences clearer (still can't find it!) and make it crash less often.
No iOS 11 support?
Terrible that this still isn't updated when it's an important educational app.
Pictures are great but...
the letters are too small for tracing and to be honest its a little boring.
A few suggestions for updates..
1) An English voice option instead of the american one...the first app that does this will win a lot of fans in the uk
2) make the pictures smaller on the tracing screen
3) improve the tracing screen by making the trace area bigger, allowing enough room for drawings
4) allow the choice of upper case or lower case or both so you can focus on one at a time.
5) other apps use a cute character for the tracing - it looks good
6) needs a mute button ( i know you can use settings but still) so you can use it in a public place without headphones
