1010! Block Puzzle Game 4+

Good but advert issue

There's not much to say about the game. It's like Tetris but you select where the blocks go in your own time; your only enemy is yourself. It's repetitive but that's the whole point; I've been playing it for 2 years now and I still enjoy it.

However, recently there's a big issue. A banner ad will appear that says Apple Security that triggers a beeping (like a bomb about to go off) that persists even with the game minimised. It's easy to get rid of (just close the app in the menu) but it constantly occurs. You'll play for maybe 2 minutes before it starts.

So a great game but a huge issue. The devs need to sort out this advert issue, either by using a different advert service or manually rooting out the offending advert, cause if they don't the game can't be played enjoyably since even in silent with the ringer down to zero and vibrate off, the beeping still occurs.

This used to be a brilliant game – endlessly rewarding when you got it right, brutally unforgiving when you got it wrong. A serious injury earlier this year left me with sufficient downtime to achieve a personal goal of getting to a quarter of a million points. Beautiful.

Then a feature got added, allowing the player to rotate new shapes before placing them on the board. You still need to play with a bit of care, but this massively reduces the chances of messing up and getting slapped all the way back down to zero when you’re just a few hundred points short of your previous high score. That risk of losing everything was the thing that kept you on your toes.

The get out clause doesn’t come free –every time you invoke the rotate function you have to sit through a 30 second ad for a piece of generic tat you didn’t want and won’t buy. It’s disheartening. The jeopardy is gone, and with it the massive satisfaction and relief of getting out of a tight spot. A compelling game of skill and strategy has been reduced to a mere waiting game.

I remember playing it a couple of years ago, when there used to be skins, and was disappointed when they were removed, but I love how they re-implemented this aspect! I find this game highly addictive, and yet not overly frustrating; if you run out of room, you can just restart! I think that the game is fun, and I like how there is no time constraint. However, I feel that 1010! can get a bit overly repetitive at points, and maybe adding a sort of “speed mode” type of thing would actually be a fun idea. (Speed mode would obviously be where you would have some sort of time constraint as to how long you would have to actually place the blocks, but of you didn’t do it in time, different disadvantages or ‘punishments’ so to speak could also be added.) All in all, I really enjoy this game as a way to pass time in usually dull situations.
